(to purchase/download, please click the image)

Well protected - ready for summer. with a crochet hat made of “paper.” The cellulose material is featherlight and can be “scrunched” into any bag. Rafia “yarns” are either raffia or viscose, depending on the manufacturer. Of course, you can also crochet it with other yarns with a similar yardage and hook size (see below).

Basic crochet skills for crocheting in rounds are sufficient.

The PDF pattern is illustrated step by step for a head circumference of 52 cm to 55 cm and can easily be adapted for a different head circumference (described in the pattern). Also included are a printable summary as well as links and tips for beginners.

We need: approx. 85 g (= 4 skeins of 25 g each) Rafia (Adriafil), 100% cellulose (wood pulp), hand wash, 25 g – approx. 50 m yardage, for crochet hook size 4.5 – 5.0, used here: crochet hook size 4.5; measuring tape, scissors, yarn needle for weaving in ends, if desired a narrow velvet ribbon approx. 110 cm long

You can never have too many (mesh) bags, and this one holds quite a lot:

Crochet Pattern for a Simple Bernau Eco-Friendly Mesh Bag #3

(Click the image to purchase/download )

This is another design from our Bernau eco-initiative.

This mesh bag is made from approx. 140 m of thin packing twine (100% hemp; 200 g – 160 m length), crocheted in rounds from the bottom up using a size 6.0 hook. If you’d like, you can crochet a little heart or similar accent; to do this, use a scrap of yarn for the heart and a crochet hook size that matches that yarn.

  • Any desired size is possible (yarn usage varies depending on size)
  • Any yarn of your choice can be used (only the size will vary depending on the yarn weight and crochet hook size used)
  • Basic crochet skills are sufficient
Finished dimensions:
unstretched/lying flat: approx. 25 cm high x 32 cm wide, i.e., circumference approx. 64 cm. The bag is slightly narrower at the top (though you can decide for yourself how narrow you want the opening to be), but very stretchy in the mesh section.

Included in the download :

  • 8-page PDF crochet pattern for the mesh bag (in text form, with progress photos attached after the written instructions)
Includes illustrated instructions for a crocheted heart
  • PDF “Crochet Basics” – illustrated basic crochet techniques

Materials:
Basically, any yarn you like can be used with the matching hook size; wonderfully suited especially for thin yarns, lace yarns / gradient yarns (e.g. cakes).

For the size crocheted here I used: approx. 350 g cotton yarn in total, Limone/Catania, 100% cotton, 50 g – 125 m, any color choice, here 8 colors (partly using up leftovers); according to the label for hook size 2.5 – 3.5; used here: 3.5 crochet hook.
