Dear users and authors,
what has been your most extensive project so far?

Oh, I can definitely contribute a big one: a hand-knotted rug with a diameter of 2.30 meters. I knotted it about 20 years ago. Today, I wouldn’t want to take on such a big project—I wouldn’t have any time left for anything else. I know it’s a bit colorful and ornate—but that suits me. It’s in our sunroom.

Now I’m curious to hear about your big projects.

Warm regards—Ina

The biggest thing I’ve ever crocheted was a blanket for my mom as a birthday gift. It was a very simple wave pattern, alternating between off-white and latte brown. It’s probably about 1.80 x 1.20 m. I used cotton, which got really HEAVY toward the end :-) Today, I’d definitely use a different, lighter yarn. Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of it.

When I was younger, I also knitted a few sweaters with patterns and motifs. I wouldn’t have the patience for that today—knitting just isn’t my thing.

“Was”? “Is” fits better.

Among other projects, I’m working on a large tablecloth made up of several pieces of varying sizes.
Right now, I’m working on the center section, where the pattern is gradually taking shape in my head.

Anyone familiar with these crocheted mandalas might be able to get a rough idea of what the tablecloth will look like.

My castle. The pattern is still a work in progress.

Thank you, @roticanai, for the compliment :-)

I really like the castle that’s in the works, too. I’m sure no one else has anything like it… and it can still be expanded. Any child would be happy with it—and the maker enjoys crocheting and tinkering with it, too.

The blanket is sure to be a truly one-of-a-kind piece as well. You really have to be very diligent with that. How big is the center section already? You always have to factor in that it’ll get even bigger after blocking. And how big are you planning for it to be in the end?

With big projects, you always have to prove that you’re persistent—otherwise, you’ll end up having invested a lot of time without a result you can enjoy for years to come. That’s probably the biggest challenge with large projects.

The center section measures 33 cm so far, Schnuckelina.

The table is 95 cm wide and 190 cm long.

I had a giant yarn cake wound especially for me in my favorite colors, which will match the oriental style of the living room—once it’s finally renovated, that is.

The great thing about crocheting is that I can take breaks in between.

This is my project, “Add Some Color to the Couch!” ;-)

I worked on these two pillows on and off over a pretty long period of time—it’s super easy to crochet a few little granny squares here and there in your spare time.

But the project isn’t quite finished yet. On the back cushion, I plan to sew a large, colorful button onto every white granny square—and each button is supposed to look different (I’ve already collected the buttons on various trips and while wandering through different markets and little shops).

Then it won’t be a cuddly pillow anymore, but I thought the idea was so funny ;-) … Though it’s NOT my idea—I actually got the inspiration from Matt and Dennis’s blog (“Boys and Bunting,” formerly “According to Matt”)

Maybe the project will be finished SOMEDAY, and when it is, I’ll show you a picture of it too ;-)

@CreatOwl ... with a table that size, you’ll be busy for quite a while yet. I’m excited to see the finished piece. The giant Bobbel is ideal for such large projects.

@AramisvonK
I think your colorful cushions are fantastic! But I like the idea with the different buttons you’re collecting around you even more. If I were visiting you and sitting on that couch, the cushions would draw me in like magic. Before turning my attention to you, I’d first take a good, leisurely look at the cushions. I hope we’ll also get to see the finished “colorful button cushion.”

Best regards - Ina
