I read in an article that preemies / babies born too early are happy to have crocheted octopuses because the tentacles remind them of the umbilical cord, and then they feel safe in the incubator. Of course, that is good for their development. They hold on to the tentacles, especially while sleeping. This stabilizes their breathing and heartbeat, and they don’t pull on the cables for the medical devices or on the breathing tube.
For safety reasons, the octopus arms should not be longer than 8.6 inches = 21.8 cm when stretched out. The little animals are washed and sterilized regularly and may also be kept.
The article is about Denmark and England. I don’t know whether this is also a topic in Germany. You may need to ask about that. The safety regulations for amigurumi / animals are quite strict in Germany, though, so it’s better to ask twice.
