Is Bart Simpson actually as popular with kids as he is with adults?

I think—though I'm not entirely sure—that kids these days are focused on other things.

I'd love to know more about that :-) There are a lot of moms here, so maybe they'll say something about it . . .

... I don’t know either, but I’d guess that The Simpsons’ target audience is more of an “older” audience?
In all the six years I’ve been crocheting appliqués for kids, not a single request for a Simpson character has come up—not even from the U.S.
I’ve had lots of other specific requests, but none for The Simpsons.
BUT, of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean anything....

Let me put it this way:
Bart Simpson isn’t exactly what you’d call a role model. That’s why I won’t be actively promoting that with my son. He picks up enough nonsense at preschool; there’s no need to bring Bart Simpson into his upbringing as well.

My nephew is a big Bart Simpson fan and a well-behaved boy—so you can see that the two aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive :-) Bart Simpson is fun, and parents and family are the role models . . .

Everyone has to decide that for themselves; I just hope this doesn’t turn into a debate about parenting.

We were asked for our opinion, and it doesn’t need to be constantly elaborated on, commented on, and provoked by others.

It seems impossible to have a thread here with only factual posts.

If you want to crochet him, I’d be careful—the character is licensed.

Hey,
The Simpsons annoy me, but not my family, and our little one really loves wearing T-shirts with Bart on them.
Role model or not :D A child also has to learn the difference
And yes, there has already been a comment here about imitating it.
Have a nice Sunday!
Best wishes,
Angela ;)

Sorry, but I’m a little upset right now because it’s always the same thing in every thread.

@crochetwithlove, this is directed at you. Did you study law? Do you know osakie or her intentions?

I hope people are now able to ignore the incompetent comments about license rights. As if anyone here were an expert on license law, etc. Can’t we just talk about Bart???

Best regards, Karo

P.S. It seems like in every forum (no matter where I am), there are people who think they’re smarter than everyone else.

P.P.S. I like Bart Simpson!

Dear osaki,
I love The Simpsons, and so does my son. Bart is definitely a challenging kid, but the show is great.

Best regards, Biene

@ Karonana3...you can be as annoyed as you want. It was merely a heads-up, because we’re on a pattern platform here, and I’m going to assume that the person isn’t asking for no reason. A general question about how popular some characters are can be asked elsewhere too. And before there’s major trouble or even a warning letter, I’m simply pointing it out. So what’s the problem?

Regards, Danie

Dear Karonana,
I completely agree with you. I also come here to talk about crafts and don’t want to read any references to off-topic subjects. Danie, please don’t be mad at me. Couldn’t we create a separate thread where all that information and those notices can be found? That way, everyone interested in licenses could exchange ideas there?

Best regards, Biene

It was just a note. Have a great weekend...now I know why I post so little on this forum. ;)

By the way, I really like your ball, Osaki, and I can totally picture those points as Bart’s hair.
With a bit of mathematical imagination, you can work it out :D
Just to clarify what was going through my mind—and probably chrochetwithlove’s too. Anyone who can create crochet patterns like this can also think outside the box.

You don’t need a law degree to know that you’re allowed to crochet certain things for personal use, but it’s better not to publish them as a pattern.
And it wasn’t even meant badly—quite the opposite—but I also don’t think Osaki intended to do that anyway, ggg

@nadelkissen: I agree with you. There’s no need to take unnecessary risks and involve shrewd lawyers.

@osaki: If that was just a general question, then all I can say is that I don’t like The Simpsons.
Everyone has to decide that for themselves, though. The kids in my neighborhood are more into Hello Kitty and Japanese action figures.

Well, I know a lot of kids between the ages of 2 and 13, and The Simpsons aren't generally that popular with them.

And here we are again, waaaaaay off topic, as always.
We’re in a public forum here, where any potential customer can read this.
A question was asked—presumably directed at buyers—and it needs to be answered.
The reasoning behind this question is up to Osaki.
If buyers want Bart Simpson, they’re welcome to express that wish here.
How Osaki chooses to handle it is entirely her business.

So, dear buyers, feel free to voice your wishes. They’re welcome, since we’re very much dependent on you and your ideas.<\/strong>

Yeah, Häkelkeks, it’s clear that the buyers are the ones being addressed, and until just now everything was still fine :D
Many years ago, an old lady once told me: If you have raised index fingers, you go to the doctor, because they’re sick.  hee hee hee :D

On to the actual topic (let’s get that out of the way first, so anyone who isn’t interested in the rest can stop reading here): Personally, I think The Simpsons are awful; my husband likes them, but my kids are still too young for them.

As for the rest of the discussion: I know osaki and I know she certainly doesn’t want to make copyrighted characters. Still, I think it’s perfectly fine to point out the licensing issue, since many designers are obviously unaware of the potential consequences of licensing violations (otherwise, there wouldn’t be various patterns here that raise licensing concerns). These comments, even when made by non-lawyers, are neither know-it-all nor incompetent—they’re primarily well-intentioned (at least that’s what I assume; I make such comments myself when I get the impression that someone might otherwise be heading for trouble).

It’s sad that osaki is obviously right with her thread on the topic of “the mood here in the forum.”
@karonana: You can express criticism objectively, too.
@bienchen: This forum has various categories, including one for “Crochet.” Off-topic posts certainly don’t belong there—I agree with you on that. However, this thread is under “General” and is already off-topic in itself, so what’s the problem if another off-topic comment is added?

Hi Johanna,

I’m not really into The Simpsons myself. I’ve never liked them. My older son laughs at and with them every day, and he’s even gotten the younger one to watch along with him. If I were to buy a T-shirt featuring them, they’d be just as happy about it as they are about Cars, Star Wars, and the like. But I can’t say there’s any real hype about them.

Best wishes, Nici

Hmm… well, this post is a bit older… I’m just wondering—after reading it—why I’ve had the strong feeling, ever since I started visiting the forum more often, that some people are “allowed” to express their opinions while others get flak for theirs?
Someone wrote that they didn’t think much of The Simpsons and didn’t want to expose their children to it. So far, so good. Another comment, which said that one thing doesn’t rule out the other and that the person hadn’t had any bad experiences, was in turn met with: “There doesn’t seem to be a single thread that contains only objective posts.”

I wonder what makes the “pro” side less objective than the “con” side?
I’ll probably never know :o)

Live and let live!!!
There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers!!!

Have a lovely sunny day and happy crafting.
