Dear users, dear authors,
Top-down raglan is becoming increasingly popular as a technique.
You have to try it—you can create some great designs with it.
Here in this thread, you’ll find some lovely patterns for top-down raglan. Download them now.

I don’t want to give too much away, since it will all be in the patterns anyway, but maybe one of the authors (m/f) would like to briefly summarize it?

@Authors
please share thematically relevant patterns here. Don’t forget to include an image, a link, and text with information on the difficulty level, technique, materials, and what makes the pattern special.

Raglan from the top - you absolutely have to try it! With this technique, you knit sweaters, ponchos, and cardigans in one piece from the collar to the hem. No separate pieces, no sewing together.

An example of a raglan from the top that is also suitable for beginner knitters would be this beautiful outdoor poncho made from cuddly soft wool. The 4 raglan slants are shown with a cable. That makes it very easy to keep track of your increases.

I hope you have lots of fun making it. This certainly won’t be your last raglan from the top ;-)
Best wishes - Yours, "Ina strickt"

Raglan from the top—RVO—is a great technique. It’s worked in one piece, and whether you’re crocheting or knitting, it always looks fantastic.
Want to knit a winter little jacket or crochet a summer vest ? Once you try it for the first time, you’ll want to do it again and again :)

A great swoncho knitted as a top-down raglan—that’s Nessa.

Why swoncho? It’s simple—this chic top is a combination of a sweater and a poncho. Thanks to the knitted-on cuffs, nothing can slip, and the poncho always fits perfectly. A stylish accessory, just right for the approaching spring. The pretty raglan increases are the eye-catcher!

Materials needed:

  • approx. 400 grams of “Lippenbekenntnis” Best of by Schoppel (yardage 420 m / 100 g) or similar yarn with the same yardage
  • circular knitting needle 3.5–4.5 (I recommend an interchangeable cable system, such as one from KnitPro, because toward the end there will be a lot of stitches on the needle and you will need a very long cable)
  • 9 stitch markers (8 for the raglan lines and one for joining in the round)
  • sewing needle for weaving in the ends
  • measuring tape
  • A piece of scrap yarn for the provisional cast-on
  • crochet hook for the provisional cast-on
  • if needed, a set of double-pointed needles in 3.5–4.5
I designed the swoncho for sizes 40–44, but it can be adjusted individually for any size. You only need to measure the neck circumference, sleeve length, and wrist width.
The pattern is 7 pages long and includes written instructions as well as charts and a schematic drawing. It was test knitted and checked for errors.
Difficulty level: easy to intermediate.
