C2C Crochet // Corner to Corner // Corner to Corner

Dear users, dear authors,
AramisvonK brought up this topic over in the other thread.
Here you can discuss C2C ("Corner to Corner" ) crochet, i.e. crocheting diagonally from corner to corner. Have fun

I think quite a few triangle shawls in the shop are made this way.

Hi :)

I’d like to pick up on AramisvonK’s question here:

Yes, I’ve crocheted something using this technique before: a pillowcase made up of two square dinosaur designs. If I get a chance to use the computer again tonight, I’ll post a picture.

I think this technique is more common in the U.S., where people mostly crochet blankets anyway.

These stitches are often called “pixel stitches.” The great thing about this technique is that you can make sooo many different images with it—and they’re really easy to create yourself by using graph paper and coloring in the squares however you like. Personally, I love using this technique to create characters from movies, comics, or video games, especially because of the pixelated look.

But even without a specific image in mind, C2C crochet can look absolutely amazing! As a blanket with cool stripes, a triangular shawl, a loop scarf… The possibilities are sooo endless!

As for the difficulty, I can only say: It’s totally doable! After 3–4 rows, you’ll get the hang of it, and then it practically works on its own.
With motifs, the only thing that’s a bit of a hassle is the constant color changes. You have to think carefully about which thread you can let run along with the work and which you can leave hanging for the next row...

What I personally underestimated at the beginning: My first dinosaur square was actually only meant to be a test—I thought it would be a tiny square, about 10 by 10 cm, but it ended up as big as a medium-sized sofa pillow ;) (which is why it ended up becoming a pillow)
If you want to make a finer pattern, you can also check out Mini C2C—it uses half double crochet (hdc) instead of double crochet (dc) :)

So I definitely plan to make more using this technique!

Thank you so much, Tina, for this detailed answer.
I think I now know what I want to try next ;-)

To start with, I’ll look for a few videos online—let’s see how well they’re explained ;-)

Hi!
I've actually crocheted a lot, but I didn't know this technique at all until last year. But I liked it straight away.
In the meantime, I've crocheted a children's blanket. After some initial difficulties, it was really easy. I was able to use a lot of leftover yarn for the blanket.
I'd also like to crochet a beautiful motif blanket someday (based on cross-stitch or fuse bead patterns) ??
Unfortunately, there are very few pictures or patterns to be found - maybe here soon ???

I also crocheted my first granny square motif in the C2C pattern last weekend. It works great and is really fun. At first, I had some trouble with the color changes, but I figured it out quickly. I’ve now made a little doily with my sheep motif, but I’m already working on the next one. I’d like to make a blanket out of the finished granny squares. I already have a ship, a tree, and my sheep.

Yes, I’d also be interested in the yarn consumption—specifically, whether it really is significantly higher. I’ve already started getting requests at home regarding size and design, and making sure I order enough yarn.

Wollwunder Petra

No sooner had the topic of “C2C” come up than I actually found a pattern here today. It’s a fox pillow, and it’s even pretty affordable.

I couldn’t help myself—of course I ordered it right away and have already downloaded it.

The pattern is well explained and is definitely great for practicing, too.

Hi everyone!

I’ve also made various C2C crochet projects.
Among other things, a pillow and a (160x190cm) cozy blanket for the sofa, as well as a matching doll blanket for our “little snail’s” baby:

Hi everyone,

wow, your crochet projects using this technique look so great :-). Now I know what I’m going to try next—you’ve really piqued my curiosity :-)

Question: How do I create a motif for a C2C blanket?
For example, my blanket is supposed to be 220m long and 150cm wide with a PIA in the middle—how do I calculate that?
