This pattern is intended especially for those who have never worked with a Bobbel before, but of course pros can crochet this loop scarf too. The pattern is easy to follow and is crocheted “straight,” so you really can’t go wrong.

For the loop scarf, I used a 3-ply Bobbel with a yardage of 750 m and a size 4.5 crochet hook.

“Bobbel” is the term used for these (mostly) hand-wound balls of yarn. The strands (usually 3 or 4) are laid side by side and are not twisted together. Most Bobbel are made from a yarn blend of 50% cotton and 50% acrylic. However, they are now also available with merino wool.
The yarns (very thin strands, almost like sewing thread) come in all kinds of colors, and the possible combinations are almost endless. You can buy them on cones.
Because these Bobbel are wound by hand, they allow for beautiful long color gradients.

It may take a little getting used to knitting or crocheting with this stranded yarn, but with a bit of practice, you’ll quickly get the hang of it. ☺

Then grab the pattern for the Peara scarf!

“Peara” is the Māori word for “pearl.”
The pearls incorporated into this gorgeous scarf add that special finishing touch. But even without the pearls, it’s a real eye-catcher. Thanks to its design, it drapes beautifully and can be worn in many different ways.
The scarf’s length and width can be adjusted; it can be crocheted with almost any yarn, but it looks especially lovely with a yarn cake.

Dimensions after blocking: approx. 200 x 40 cm

Materials needed:

• approx. 100–200 grams of yarn (or 800–1000 meters)
• Crochet hook appropriate for the yarn used (if you crochet tightly, use a larger size)
• Beads (e.g., rocailles—the hole should be large enough so that
• it doesn’t sit too tightly on the yarn)
• a piece of very thin wire for threading the beads
• Sewing needle for finishing

This scarf is a great project for beginners, since it consists almost entirely of double crochets and chain stitches.
The pattern is 11 pages long and includes a detailed photo tutorial on how to crochet the beads along the edge and into the flower pattern, as well as a written version and charts.

You can find lots of yarn cakes on eBay. Just search for “gradient yarn.”
They come already wound. On Facebook, there are several yarn winders who can also put together custom cakes for you.

Christmas is over, and there’s finally time again to crochet something for yourself.
Did you get a beautiful gradient yarn cake for Christmas? Even better. How about the gorgeous loop scarf “Johanna”?



It was made with a 4-ply gradient yarn cake with 750 m of yardage, though I didn’t use the entire cake.

With the specified length, it can be wrapped wonderfully around the neck twice. 

The pattern is a nice change of pace for advanced crocheters; for beginners with a little experience, it’s wonderful for practicing different types of stitches.

The Leviathan is ideal for Bobbel and perfect for beginners if you’ve never worked with this material before.



The length and number of strands of the Leviathan can be adjusted as desired, since the pattern isn’t tied to a specific gauge. All you need is a contrasting yarn of the same weight to go with your Bobbel. However, this doesn’t necessarily have to be a second Bobbel.

The pattern is broken down into several steps, so the basic pattern sections are explained, and you’ll then find the pattern repeats broken down in detail. However, you can also work the shawl “freestyle” after the first step.

What skills do you need?

• Cast on stitches
• knit stitches
• kfb (knit-front-back) increase
• slipping stitches

If you prefer crocheting, I can highly recommend the Esmeralda.



The Esmeralda is a soul warmer for which you need at least one 1000 m gradient yarn cake (for size 34/36). The pattern is one-size. You can stop at your clothing size. Only the ch needed changes.

The color gradient is worked from the inside out, so all color sections are shown to their full effect.
