Dear craft friends,

I wish you a happy, healthy, and peaceful New Year!

Since we are all connected here through our handmade projects, I’m opening this thread and asking you to join in actively. Show us your first handmade project of the new year. I’m excited to see the colorful cross-section of our creative work.

I haven’t sewn, knitted, crocheted, or felted anything yet, but I’m about to get started. Of course, I’ll post my first creation of 2026 here then.

Thank you very much for joining in, and warm greetings from Ina

Great idea. We had a really cozy day today. Slept in, then did a little reading. At noon, we took advantage of the sunshine for a long walk over to the kids’ place to wish them a Happy New Year.

Around lunchtime today, I traced an embroidery design; tomorrow I hope to transfer it onto fabric. That means I can’t show anything yet, but as soon as I get started, I’ll post pictures.

I started today with a temperature snake. Each temperature is assigned a wool color, and then every day I crochet a round in the corresponding color onto the snake. And at the end of the year, it will essentially show the temperature trend over the past year.

Here’s what it looks like today:

There never seems to be a shortage of ideas here! How wonderful!

A temperature snake… what an extraordinary idea. It already has its eyes, and it’ll provide crochet material for the whole year :)

I don’t have anything to show yet, but I’ve been fiddling with my next crochet project since this afternoon. :)

Dear Ina,
that’s a wonderful idea.
I think it won’t be long before this post is filled with pictures. As for me, I have several projects waiting to be finished.
Wishing you all a happy 2026!! Above all, good health.
Warm regards

My first project of the new year comes—as is typical for me—from the sewing room. I’m currently experimenting with a wrap-around top for my dolls. After giving them flared pants last year, I now want to design a top to go with them. In the meantime, I’m fine-tuning the sewing pattern—it’s all about millimeters here. In any case, the prototype looks like this:

Best regards, Ina

I’m designing a new knitted shawl, and I’ve set my sights high with this project. The first three pattern sections are already finished ☺️
I’ve also designed a new crochet shawl pattern, which I’m currently crocheting. So, two projects at once ☺️
Warm regards

I received three skeins (150g) of beautiful merino yarn for Christmas—I couldn’t resist and have already knitted the first half into a warm, woolly shawl, following my favorite pattern from here, the “Take a Seat” shawl. That will probably be
the first project I finish this year. Besides that, though, I’m still working on a long cardigan (the back and left front are done; I’m on the right front), and then a beautiful—and much too large—KidSeta shawl, a woolly mini-shawl, a lace loop (it’s a gift), and an “Everyday” crochet shawl are all waiting to be finished 🙄

Hello, everyone!
I wish you all a healthy and happy New Year from the bottom of my heart.

Yes, we’re not running out of ideas—and that’s a good thing :) Last year, I crocheted some nativity figures; they’re between about 16 cm and about 18 cm tall. Now I’m adding the matching stable.

Hello and Happy New Year 🎉 🥂

I crocheted a scarf without a pattern, and my daughter wanted one just like it, so this is my first project of the new year. Maybe I’ll write a blog post or a tutorial about it—we’ll see.

Best regards,
Alex

Hi, that’s a great idea. I haven’t started anything new, but I’m working on the Advent calendar from the historical embroidery pattern booklets. The motif was published on the four Sundays of Advent. In the evenings, I’m knitting a new pair of gloves for myself

But those are all such lovely things you have on your knitting needles, crochet hooks, and embroidery needles! You can tell that everyone is really in love with their work. That’s how it should be, because otherwise it wouldn’t be any fun.

I also like that you can express your admiration for a piece using the “Like” button. It’s not a must, but somehow you just want to show that you like something.

I wish everyone a lovely, relaxing winter day with plenty of time for crafts.

Warm regards from Ina

I’d also like to wish everyone a healthy New Year.
I’ve been crocheting little angels; I finished the last one yesterday, and I’ve already given three of them away (one in purple with lurex thread, one in green, and one in red with gold thread). The last one—shown here in purple—still needs a light ironing so the little skirt doesn’t “curl” so much.

I’ll still be working on last year’s project for a while—an RVO cardigan.
Since I got the yarn from an acquaintance and don’t know how far it will go, I haven’t finished the body after separating the stitches and am currently working on the first sleeve. We’ll see how long the cardigan ends up being.

That’s what I’m planning to do next, too—with the same challenge as you! I figured I’d start with the sleeves first; if necessary, I’ll continue on the main body with a different type of yarn. Good luck!

Hi, I’m still knitting a hat with a winter landscape on it. I started it last year and it’ll be finished soon. Unfortunately, I don’t have as much time to knit as I’d like. Because of my post-COVID symptoms, I have to take longer and longer breaks throughout the day between all my other tasks, so there isn’t much free time left. But still—the time I spend with my needles is the best :-))

=11ptHi,
for me, it’s these simple wrist warmers. Nothing special, just for everyday use when I’m out walking my dogs.
I spun the wool myself—half sheep, half Collie (dog)—which explains the subtle color variation.

Wow, you’re all hard at work again! 😊 What a beautiful, colorful mix of crafts!

My first project this year was a Pokémon—and not exactly the cutest one 😅

This one had been on my daughter’s wish list for what felt like forever, but I didn’t really dare to tackle it for a long time because I wasn’t sure if I could get the shape of this cocoon right—my daughter is autistic, so the details have to be just right 🙃

But now it’s done, and my daughter has already given it her seal of approval 😁

Happy New Year to everyone. I’m currently obsessed with crocheting bags. I started the new year with the same project I finished the old one with. This one still needs an inner pocket and a zipper. I gave two others as Christmas gifts.

I’ve finished my “Mood Snail,” following a pattern by LaCritza. Similar to mood blankets or mood snakes, each mood is assigned a color, and at the end of the year, the proportions are tallied.

Hello Community,
I wish you all a creative New Year.
My first project this year was a table runner that I embroidered as a New Year’s gift or as a belated Christmas gift for a grandmother.
The most beautiful project of this new year—a wool sweater made from Lana Grossa Amoroso for my goddaughter—I actually started at Christmas, but I’m still counting it as part of this topic.

Here are the photos I forgot to save earlier.
The table runner looks much nicer in real life, of course.

Hi everyone, I’m currently working on several projects. I really love wearing these little cardigans right now.
I’m also making matching earrings and hairbands to go with them. But since this probably wouldn’t be very popular, I’m working on them freehand and won’t be writing any patterns.
It’s also fun to just crochet away for the sake of it.

Warm regards, and never lose your passion for crafts—it can be so fulfilling. 💕

So many wonderful things have already come off the needle here. It’s great that so many of you are joining in and showing off your creations.

I started with an embroidery project, but then the urge to sew took over.

So I finished a tree first.

That was immediately followed by my ⛄ snowman

and now I’m working on a children’s loop scarf

Have fun crafting, and have a sunny day!

Hello everyone,
I wish you all a happy, healthy, and creative New Year ✨ My first crochet project of the year (and also my last one from the old year 😉) is finished: the Grace keyhole scarf. I started it back in the old year and was able to finish it on New Year’s Day. So, for me, it symbolically connects the old year with the new. It was really fun to crochet this beautiful project—a perfect start to the new year 🧶
I hope you like it just as much as I do! Warm regards

How thoughtful of you all to knit socks for your loved ones. No one has to walk around with cold feet now. And one pair of socks looks prettier than the next, especially with all those colorful yarns—that’s what makes knitting fun and yields useful results.

They were quick to sew and are now a great eye-catcher on my couch.
I used pure cotton fabrics for them.

I actually do crafts with anything that’s suitable for crafting.
Since I also really enjoy sewing, there are leftover scraps from that too, and they’re far too good to throw away.
So I sewed myself 2 cheerfully colorful sofa pillows from the scraps.

The fabrics are cotton fabrics. I bought the inserts for them at a well-known furniture store.

Hi everyone, my first project this year is a set of custom-designed half chair covers.
Since the top part—where people grip the chair—is always greasy and slightly worn, these covers will help the chairs stay looking good for even longer. I’ve finished two so far; I still have two to go.

First up: colorful socks made from scraps. I’ve resolved to either knit 100 grams from my scraps, finish an unfinished project, or knit a 100-gram skein of sock yarn from my stash every month this year. Unfortunately, the socks only weigh 66 grams, so I had to add a little extra.

Now I’ve at least reached just under 90 grams ;-)
I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

I know what you mean, dear Andrea. My desk surface was always so cold that I wore some in the winter, too. The key is to keep the pulse on the inside of your wrist warm—then your hand stays warm, too. That’s why I knitted myself an even more elegant “office version.” For anyone interested, I’ve posted a free pattern on my blog.
Warm regards, Ina

What a lovely idea—thank you. As my first pattern for 2026, I quickly created and uploaded a cozy scarf, “Wool Sheep,” It’s perfect for the cold months and also works nicely as a spring accessory. And for warmer days, you can crochet the same design with finer yarn or cotton. More patterns using this pattern will follow. Enjoy!
