Knitting a sweater: tips?

Dear community,
do you have any tips for knitting sweaters?

If you don’t want to knit an RVO sweater, you can make a boxy sweater. For that, all the pieces are knitted as rectangles and sewn together.
Otherwise, it’s a matter of taking measurements and doing the math.
You might need to adjust the pattern if the measurements in the pattern don’t match your own.

Always do a gauge swatch to make sure it fits in the end! This applies not only to sweaters but to all garments 🤗

I have to agree with kruemel-monster on this one. If you’re knitting for a man, it’s a MUST to clarify a few things beforehand: color, shape, pattern… etc.
About 40 years ago, I knitted a jacket for my husband. Great yarn, awesome cables, it fit like a glove. But he never wore it because the jacket didn’t have any pockets. Back then, as a smoker, that was important. Where was he supposed to put the pack? Today I can laugh about it, but back then it was a big deal for me. I’d put so much work into it... but, well, I know better now.
Unfortunately, I’ve gone a bit off topic now. But whether it’s a sweater or a jacket—always clarify everything beforehand; it saves a lot of frustration.
