I sewed some little cats to store cables:

I tried out my new sewing machine. 🤩

Other than that, I’m still working on an elephant, but I’m having a bit of a creative block right now.

Unfortunately, I’ve been in a serious crochet slump for weeks now. Too bad—it’s so boring when I’m watching TV.

What have you guys been making?

Oh, and here’s another little needle case. Searching for needles was such a pain:

Today I kept sewing on an elephant. Since it was almost done, I sewed a little longer than an hour, and now my back is stiff again.

What kinds of aches and pains do you get from crafting?

My little ironing board for sewing was finally finished after a year.
I just reupholstered it—for the sake of the environment—and now I think it looks much nicer than before! ♡♡♡
I had a little trouble tucking in the corners. But I’m not very good at that with sewing projects either. 🙈

You’ve sewn some great things, Anja! I’ll probably never be a fan of the sewing machine...
But I do have a jacket on my knitting needles right now. (Aisling Cardigan by Drops) I’ve only knitted 34 rows so far, though, so you can’t really tell what it is yet.

Anja, I like your ironing board cover. It’s colorful and has a floral pattern. Working with beautiful things is more enjoyable.

My embroidery is slowly coming along—very slowly.

Petra, I came across a video yesterday where someone embroiders flowers with a totally ordinary sewing machine. And without a special presser foot—just without anything, only the needle. I’m completely fascinated. I’d love to try it, but I’m kind of scared—the needle... fingers... huh... everything is so close together.

Anja, time to get on the machine and give it a try. I’m looking forward to seeing a picture of your work

Dear Ina,

With this presser foot, I can’t sew anything like what you made—I always need the transparent ones, or an open-toe one (for appliqué).

Yeah, a machine that can do that would be great. But it’s too expensive.

I’ve always been fascinated by those plotter things, then ironing them on. But also 💸💸💸...

Ugh, it’s me again…
I sewed this card case. It was a lot of fun, but as ALWAYS… something always goes wrong 🙃
The pattern didn’t make it very clear whether you’re supposed to attach the snap at the top or the bottom—so now that I’ve finished it, I realize it should have gone at the bottom, but if it isn’t explicitly stated for beginners, that can definitely lead to confusion.
Anyway, I ended up changing it and thought, “Phew,” but when I placed the template for the hole, I didn’t realize that the SEAMS were already sewn, so the template didn’t fit right anymore… 😬
Anyway, that one snap was in the wrong spot, so I just added another one in the right position—now there are two. I couldn’t take it out because there was already a bigger hole from when I’d removed the wrongly placed cam earlier.
As always with sewing: you learn as you go.
For the next case, I’ll know what to watch out for.
Sewing with the new sewing machine is a BLAST! Love it! Compared to that, the old Carina was really a piece of junk.

I’m currently working on a scarf.

Mistermix Doubleface and two-color brioche.

Best regards, Renate

Wow Renate - the scarf is wonderful. I’ve never knitted doubleface before, and I did knit something in brioche stitch back in my youth, but never in two colors.

It definitely looks great and is surely for a cat lover.

@Anja - oh dear, that’s frustrating. But I like it with 2 snaps too, and I especially think your fabric combination turned out well.

Petra, two-color brioche is so much fun—give it a try.
I’m totally hooked on that beautiful scarf right now. 😍

I’m just finishing up a little something on the sewing machine—my neighbors just had a baby.

Thanks for the compliments, you two 😊

Yes, it’s for a cat lover—she’s already looking forward to it. And I’m going to knit one for myself, too!

Double-faced knitting is definitely worth learning—endless possibilities 😁

Best regards, Renate

Last winter, I saw some sock yarn at a discount store that I really liked.
It was heavily marked down and available in large quantities—so I snapped it up and started a sofa blanket using the Tunisian Entrelac technique.
Each pack contained 2 solid-colored and 2 mottled skeins.
The blanket is already super cozy and quite large; so far, I’ve used 22 skeins, each weighing 50g / 210m. I still have 6 skeins left…

I’m continuing to work on it now that the weather’s getting cooler.
There’s not much left to do—just a few more granny squares and then a finishing border. Let’s see if I can finish it by November—then it’ll be a birthday present.

For some reason, I just don’t feel like finishing my blanket right now—the sewing machine was more interesting.
That scrap of white fabric was lying on top (it’s actually been here for a really long time, but I just can’t bring myself to throw away little things...) and today I had an idea for it—so I just started sketching away, and this wild little fellow came to life.
Halloween is coming up soon, after all.

Boooo!!!

Claudia, der is ja toll!

Also egal jetzt ob nähen, häkeln, stricken usw.?

Anja, that’s a thin slice of concrete… I always pour leftover concrete into something to let it set—this time into a yogurt cup. That way, it won’t clog a drain. Otherwise, I also like to use flat stones if I don’t want it to be too heavy. Then I just use a bag of sand or gravel.

That back pain is really a bummer. Hopefully you’ll find a solution that works for you.

I always enjoy crocheting blankets, but in the summer it’s too warm for me. Good thing I have enough people who want them.
When sewing, I’m often inspired by fabrics I already have, so it’s rarely the same thing twice.

@Anja – It turned out great. Now everything’s organized and you don’t have to search for anything.

So far, I haven’t dared to try eyelets or snaps. But soon....

@SaniWolls – Your mermaid turned out cute. Was it easy to work with this yarn, or was it a real finger-breaker? Because she turned out pretty small despite the thick yarn.

Petra, why are the threads sticking out in the front?
Do you embroider using a pattern? Do you draw it out, or how do you keep your bearings?

I don’t use snaps; I work with snap cams—it’s super easy.

I’d seen some aesthetically pleasing storage solutions, but I just managed to make it functional. A little crooked, the seam at the top is uneven. But hey, slow and steady wins the race... 🐿

@ Anja—I’m cross-stitching using a pattern on the computer (printing it out would work too). You have to count and pay close attention—which I unfortunately didn’t do very carefully, so my leaf tendril has a lot of mistakes. When I realized that, I started pulling guide threads to avoid making more mistakes. I’m adding some lettering inside the vine now; I’ll have to see if it fits at all—otherwise, I’ll have to rip it out again.

Other designs are drawn on or ironed on (using a special pen).

Show us your storage basket. Maybe it’ll turn out better on the second try.

Yesterday I gave away my concrete sculpture—my friend was really happy to receive it.
I was quite pleased with the result after painting it.

I also sewed some fabric scraps into Halloween decorations, and since I’d just unpacked my paints, I went ahead and painted those too. I think they turned out great.
