It’s so quiet here. Are you already working on Christmas gifts?

I sewed a whole bunch of tissue pouches to donate to the hedgehog rescue center. They’ll be sold at a flea market this weekend, and hopefully people will like them and buy them.

This way, I got rid of a whole bunch of fabric scraps, and my purse looks nicer now, too. It’s hygienic and clean compared to my old, used bag.

Don’t have time for the craft group right now?

I’ll summarize my work from the past few days here.

I did a little sewing and a lot of knitting

Christmas stars made from fuzzy yarn to hang up

Christmas stars as table decorations

Together, that’s about 50 grams less leftover yarn

Then I’m knitting a triangular shawl for my friend

And for my grandson, I made a reading pillow out of old jeans

That was fun to make, and he’s repurposed it—he takes it to bed to cuddle with

Dear Petra, you’ve been especially hard at work and active lately. Your tissue pouches look lovely. I wouldn’t need one myself, but many others certainly would. And when you’re standing at a booth and can pick out the prettiest pattern, you’re sure to find one.

I especially like the knitted stars made from fuzzy yarn. I’ve knitted stars like these in a larger size before. But this small and solid-colored, they even work as decorations on a floral arrangement — a lovely idea and beautifully made.

Lately, I’ve been trying to make some time for sewing. In my swap group, I found a pretty fabric (Alpenfleece) with little glittery elves. I used it to sew a little dress for my granddaughter. She got it the other day and didn’t want to take it off. She thought the two pockets were especially cool, but of course she also loved the glitter on the elves’ magic wand. The dress is still a little too big and won’t fit her properly until next fall. But until then, she still likes wearing it.

Best regards, Ina

Dear Ina, you always find such pretty fabrics for your granddaughter, and the little ones usually love glitter the most.

The dress looks really comfortable and cozy—just the way it should be for kids.

Dear Petra, thank you so much for your kind comment.
When it comes to fabrics, the rule of thumb is probably—aside from checking the quality—that they shouldn’t be too colorful or too busy. Kids these days already have very specific ideas about what they like and don’t like. And yes, glitter always works. Luckily, the glitter on my fabric is firmly attached and doesn’t fall off; you can even iron it without any issues.

The inside of the Alpine fleece is really soft against the skin. After trying it on, Lisann didn’t want to take the dress off at all. Since it’s too big for her, I decided to look for the fabric online and sew her the dress again in a smaller size. Luckily, I found it in a store and ordered it. So she’ll get the same little dress again for Christmas, which will then fit her perfectly. The other one can be hung in the closet for a year. You can never have enough of your favorite fabrics.

Best regards, Ina
