Handicraft/Knitting Meetup

I really enjoy these kinds of meetups.
You can exchange ideas, help each other out, and share and learn new skills and techniques.

Yesterday, I was able to show someone how to use short rows on a top-down raglan sweater to create a deeper neckline. The person had never worked with turning stitches before and was so happy that they were able to do it.

What are your experiences?

Unfortunately, none at all—I haven’t come across anything like that here yet. But I think it would be nice, and I’d definitely go if there were one.

In Haan (near Düsseldorf) at my favorite yarn shop and in Mülheim an der Ruhr at a craft and yarn shop, they’ve been holding these kinds of meetups once a month for ages. I’ve never attended one, but I think it’s a great idea for all knitters and crocheters who don’t want to just practice their hobby alone at home and would like to “get out and meet people.”

Unfortunately, we don’t have anything like that here either

We have a craft meetup at the Gelsenkirchen City Library.
I regularly borrow books 😉 on knitting, sewing, and crocheting, and at some point the library director asked me if I’d be interested in offering a monthly session like this with her. We got started pretty quickly after that.
The participants change from time to time, but that’s not a problem—our shared hobby brings us together. A relatively steady core group has formed, though.
The advantage for the location is that books with patterns are always nearby. If someone is looking for an idea, there’s always something close by. 😊
In our city, there are various neighborhood libraries that offer activities on different days with different groups. I only go to one of them.

Today I’m still thinking about whether I should go to the movies. They’re hosting an event called “Knitting Cinema.” But maybe it’ll be too warm for me…
