Clever Ways to Use Bobbel Yarn, Gradient Yarn, Effect Yarn + Matching Leftovers Now

For my hand puppets, I like to use specialty yarns. This way, you can use up small scraps and create great eye-catching details on the puppets. For example, hair made from mohair yarn looks almost real. You can achieve a fur-like effect with plush yarn, and a coat made of chenille looks like velvet. Glitter yarn is especially popular for princesses and kings, and bouclé yarn lets you create curly hairstyles.

Here are a few examples from my hand puppet collection:


The King wears a robe made of silky, glittery yarn and a wine-red coat made of chenille yarn, edged with a crocheted border of glitter yarn. The crown is crocheted using the same glitter yarn. His beard and hair are made of plush yarn.



For the Rainbow Fairy, I used gradient yarn with glitter in rainbow colors. Her hair is made of pink mohair yarn. The veil and ruff are made of tulle in rainbow colors.



Little Angel and Little Devil have almost the same clothing, just in different colors. The coats are again crocheted with chenille yarn, light blue and embroidered with gold for the angel, black for the devil. This time, the coats were edged with sponge yarn. Both Little Angel and Little Devil have curly hairstyles made from bouclé yarn (doll yarn). The little angel’s wings are made from gold glitter yarn.
