Material for Tunisian Crochet Hooks

Hello, fellow craft lovers!

As a (relative) beginner at crocheting, I’d love to hear your opinions and experiences! I know—it’s probably always a “matter of taste,” but I’m currently learning Tunisian crochet and would like to buy a (high-quality) set. Since this naturally costs money, I’d love to know what others’ experiences have been :-)  Which material is sturdier: wood or bamboo?
I’ve read reviews of sets from Knit Pro, Prym, and various other manufacturers, and I’m still a bit unsure. I’d appreciate any tips! I’m looking for hooks with a cord...

Hi Judi,
Which crochet hooks work best for you is, of course, a very personal matter. Ideally, you should try out individual hooks before investing in a whole set.
The different hook shapes make a big difference. A freely rotating cable (swivel) is a definite plus and makes crocheting much more comfortable.

As for wood versus bamboo: I’ve never had a hook break so far. Wood is usually smoother than bamboo.
The shape tends to make a bigger difference.

I have the set with interchangeable cables from Pony. They’re metal hooks. I’ve been very happy with them so far. 
I can’t get the hang of wooden ones, not even with regular crochet hooks.

Thank you both so much for your feedback!
When there’s so much choice, choosing is hard (or does the anticipation last longer?!) .. 😉 Ultimately, trying things out helps—exactly.. I do have one hook here, but I’m not sure whether it’s bamboo or wood..😉 Metal also has its advantages..

Thanks also for the tip about the shape/swivel.. I hadn’t even considered that, but it makes sense :-)
I don’t have any specific questions about a set yet—otherwise I’ll write again...

Oh, and one more thing: I just thought of a few more questions. Regarding this swivel—do you have an example of a brand so I can check it out? Are there ever issues with the yarn getting caught on it?
