A project where you can really play creatively with your imagination is crocheting
hand puppets. You can really design them individually according to your own ideas. You usually don’t even need to buy new yarn for that—just let your leftover yarn inspire you!
Here I’ll show you the “magical characters” from my collection:
Merlin the Wizard
is already ancient and has a snow-white beard. Whether he is good or evil depends on the particular Kasperl play. In some plays he is good and wise and helps Kasperl; in others he is evil and casts spells on Kasperl’s friends.
He wears a bright blue cloak shot through with silver glitter and edged with silver eyelash yarn. The pointed hat is made from the same yarn. Of course, you can crochet your Merlin in completely different colors, e.g. black or purple. You can also embroider or glue stars or magical signs onto his cloak. There are no limits to your imagination.
Wobbly-Tooth Witch
clearly belongs among the evil characters. However, she is pretty stupid and can easily be outwitted by Kasperl.
The witch has a large nose and bright red hair held together with a fringed scarf. Her clothing is shabby and already quite tattered and patched. That’s ideal for crocheting up small amounts of leftover yarn.
The Rainbow Fairy
is, of course, one of the good ones. With her magical powers, she often stands by Kasperl’s side and fights against the forces of evil.
The Rainbow Fairy wears a dress that shimmers in all the colors of the rainbow. I used gradient yarn here. But you can just as easily work with colorful leftover yarn. The fairy’s pointed hat also has a veil in rainbow colors. She has pink hair and a sweet face.
