Making a Birthday Crown

Dear users, dear authors,
does the birthday child get a crown in your family? Do you make a crown, or would you buy a ready-made crown?

Dear Josefa,
my grandchildren always wear a crown on their birthdays. It’s something very special—on that day, they’re a “little king” or a “little queen.” They’re the center of attention and are immediately recognized as the birthday child among all the little birthday guests.

It wasn’t as common in the past—people only wore crowns during Carnival. Today, things are different. My grandchildren get a crown on every birthday. I would make them myself, decorating them however I liked—with lots of rhinestones and bling-bling, or in a cooler style for the boys.

But as grandparents, you can’t always do exactly what you want. That’s why they (unfortunately) get store-bought crowns. After all, the parents want to have a say in the design too. These are usually sewn from cotton fabric—light, soft, and “not as kitschy” as mine. But I’m happy for them anyway, because they still enjoy these designs on their big day.

As long as our kids are in preschool, they get a crown they make there.
Quentin’s birthday is the day after tomorrow—he’s already turning 2 🫣
Since he doesn’t go to preschool yet, I’m going to cut one out of cardboard tomorrow, and the girls can decorate and paint it.
Lotti had a crown I crocheted for her 1st birthday.
