Birthday Party Favors

Hi,

I’m looking for ideas or patterns for a kids’ birthday party at preschool. My grandson is turning 6, and I’d like to give each child a little party favor. Cake and candy are out. I was thinking of a small crossbody bag about the size of a Pixxi book! Or do you have another idea? I haven’t been crocheting for very long, though, so it should be something fairly easy to make.

Thanks for your ideas!

Best regards, Angela

Hi Angela,

something simple—and that kids really love—is colorful balls.
Or, since your grandson is in preschool, something fitting for that age: counting mice.
However, I’m not sure if I’d really make that for an entire group. There are surely quite a few kids for whom your hard work would end up “in the corner” pretty quickly.

Or crochet something for the whole group—like play store accessories.

Best wishes, Nina

Hey there,

Angela—it should be something crocheted, right? How about crocheting a little ladybug for each child? You can find a pattern here, and it’s easy to follow.

Ladybug / Lucky Bug “Marie”

I’m not sure how much time you have until it needs to be ready, though.

You could also crochet a little ball for each child—sort of like a little smiley face to attach to their backpack or something similar. Just embroider a face on it.

There are also little fabric pouches with designs to color in, so everyone can decorate their own pouch with bright colors.

Love, Andrea

Hi Angela,

Is it customary where you are for the kids to bring a little something for the others?
If not, be sure to ask beforehand if it’s even allowed.
He wouldn’t be the first kid who has to sadly take all the gifts back home because it’s forbidden at preschool.

Otherwise, I’d just make a very small little something.
As has already been mentioned: a little ladybug or something like that 🙂
Because for many parents, something like that either ends up in the corner or straight in the trash, and that would be a shame after all that work!

Maybe it would be better to make a larger item for the whole kindergarten group—if it’s allowed (follow CE guidelines!!!)—that everyone can play with. As Tina mentioned above, these kinds of lovingly crocheted little items often end up in some corner or even in the trash. That’s a waste of time and materials.

Hi Angela,

that’s a nice idea, but I don’t think it’s worth the effort. Not everyone appreciates that kind of handiwork—I agree with the previous commenters.
You’ve already gotten some great suggestions.
How about a homemade game? There are some nice patterns here, like the turtle memory game or the fish game.
I’ve often covered cans of cocoa, iced tea, or similar items with colorful paper. They’re great for storing things or simply for playing can toss (with crocheted balls).
Of course, all of this assumes that the preschool approves.

Best regards, Marlies
