Ideas for Newspaper Yarn

Dear craft enthusiasts,

there are always such great ideas and tips here—do you perhaps have any ideas for what to do with yarn made from newspaper, other than using it as gift ribbons? I recently found a tutorial online showing how to spin old newspapers into yarn. So I dug out my old spindle—it worked wonderfully, and it’s fun, too. Now I have a few balls of newspaper yarn here.

I haven’t tried it yet, but I could imagine that you could use it to crochet little baskets. I’ve already done that with industrially produced paper yarn. 

Made of paper? Untreated? Then it should be something that can’t get wet.

Maybe a coaster for flowers?

How thick is the yarn?

Maybe a picture in a filet pattern?

You could use it to weave baskets, if you have a base and stakes to weave the paper yarn around. It seems too bulky to me for crocheting or knitting. After all, you want to enjoy your crafting.

You could also just take a large empty glass and wrap the paper cord all the way around it with hot glue. That would make a modern vase.

Hi Christina, I haven’t tried crocheting with paper yet either. I’ve only read about it.
