Sewing Bags

Dear users, dear designers,
what do you need to keep in mind if you want to sew bags?

You should first think about what you want to use the bag for: should it be a bag for work, for strolling around town, something sporty or elegant, or sporty-elegant? Then you should choose the fabric for it; it should at least roughly match the sewing pattern. Then check whether you need a zipper or a magnetic closure, whether the bag has a flap and outside pockets. A lining fabric also needs to be chosen; it should be somewhat dirt-repellent, because over time all sorts of things end up in a bag :-) ;-) especially if you have small children. Then check whether the bag has handles and what kind: are they made from the bag fabric, or are they leather or bamboo handles, or does the bag have a shoulder strap.
A sturdier iron-on interfacing is also part of it, so that the bag has stability and doesn’t collapse in on itself like a sack. If you want to add eye-catchers to the bag, you should think about whether you need to attach or apply them before sewing, or whether it’s enough to do it after finishing. Attach appliqués before sewing! There’s quite a lot to consider before you get started, and now have fun sewing bags

I think the most important thing is to consider what the bag will be used for. An open tote bag—like one made from an old pair of jeans, for example—is quick and easy to sew, but it’s really only suitable for carrying less important items, since anyone can reach right in without any restrictions.
Handbags and similar items definitely need a clasp or a closed interior compartment to make it a little harder for pickpockets.
