Dear users, dear authors,
dear little helpers,
are you hard at work?

Of course you are! I’ve started crocheting a sperm whale. Well, not life-size...
And, in a very imaginative move, I’ve already test-laid out my temperature blanket on the sofa! 🤣🤣 The first month is done!

As always. (ha, ha, ha)

I have 3 projects in the works:

a pillow, a scarf, and a washcloth.

I’m still working on the first 500-gram yarn cake for my blanket; I’ll only start decreasing once it’s been knitted up, using the second 500-gram yarn cake. The rows are taking quite a while now, but since it’s just garter stitch, I can even do it in the dim light in front of the TV :-)

Best, Inge

Hi there, you lovely yarn lovers!

Every now and then I crochet little mini crochet bags as decorations for my doll or something like that (using up leftover yarn), and I’m trying my hand at a crochet mosaic piece.

Question for Inge: I like your triangular knitted shawl. I’m more or less just a casual knitter. How do you get that neat, straight edge ? Mine never looks quite as nice. I knit normally—not too tight and not too loose.
I tried making something similar to what you have there once, but I don’t remember how I did the edge.
When do you slip the stitch, and when do you crochet it at the end?

Veronika, your temperature blanket looks great already in terms of color. It reminds me of spring.

Andrea, I always add or subtract the second-to-last stitch; the last stitch is the edge stitch. It depends on which direction I’m knitting in. Right now I’m still in the increase phase—I increase by knitting a second stitch from the same stitch.

Best regards, Inge

I’m waiting for my bread to finish baking, and I’m weaving in a few loose ends while I wait.

Then it’s off to the sewing machine—I need to sew a gift bag for my grandson.

Now I’m missing some orange fabric for the shirt. So I’m going to crochet it.

Yes, Andrea, this January has been unusually mild, which is why I’m using my early-spring blanket. My beautiful shades of blue for the freezing cold days are sitting unused.
But the sperm whale is finished:

Veronika, February is often really cold again. Though you’re from the Cologne area, right? I think it’s always a bit milder there than it is here at the foot of the Swabian Alb. I think if we both crocheted using the same colors to represent temperature, we’d end up with completely different blankets.

Your whale turned out beautifully. Was the tail crocheted separately and then sewn on?

Phew… right now, it feels like I’m frogging more than is good for one lifetime 🫣😂
Somehow, my ideas just aren’t turning out the way they’re swirling around in my head… tough phase *sigh*

Well, I’m waiting for the yarn for the campaign… as soon as it arrives, I’ll have that sense of accomplishment again, because the idea is fully worked out and works perfectly with the test yarn—it’ll probably only need minimal adjustments for the other yarn…

You’re right, Petra—Cologne isn’t known for harsh winters. But this year it’s very mild, even by local standards.
Yes, the tail fin was specially crocheted and sewn on. I would have linked to the pattern in the photo, but it’s no longer available here, and I couldn’t write a review of it either.

@veronika-t15,
do you still have questions about this pattern, or has it been taken care of?

No, that went great—everything worked out well.

Okay, I would have asked on your behalf otherwise, but it looks like the matter has been taken care of.

Yes, I was just wondering why I couldn’t review the pattern—I guess it had already been removed. But I still had it in my downloads. All good!

I’m currently working on a little cuddly horse from Farben..x. The sewing pattern has been sitting on my hard drive for ages; now I’ve finally printed it out and am going to sew it. I don’t have any instructions for it anymore, just the sewing pattern and the notches marked on it, but it’s working out just fine anyway. :-)

Best regards, Inge
