Dear users, dear authors,
Have you been doing more crafts since the pandemic, or has that interest waned again in the meantime?

I haven’t noticed any difference—I’ve always done some kind of craft.
The pandemic hasn’t had any effect on that.

For me, it’s neither more nor less than before....
Since I’m at home “all day” anyway, it hasn’t really made a “difference”....
With 70 m² of living space plus a garden, there’s plenty of time for crafts or needlework. What I really missed was the knitting café; we used to have that once a week.... Personal contact with other “yarn-crazy” people

The pandemic just inspired me to try out different types of crafts, like designing and sewing dolls—something I hadn’t dared to tackle for a long time. Then, during the major lockdown, I had the time and inspiration, and it was a great distraction from the misery of the world outside. But overall, I haven’t done any more or any less crafting than I usually do.

Best regards, Inge

Here are some of my dolls—except for Pumuckel at the bottom, the others are modeled after family members. The three girls in the middle are my daughters. When my youngest granddaughter saw them, she said, “Grandma, make our family—Dad, Mom, and me,” so I sat down and made them :-)

Love, Inge

I’ve been doing a lot of crafts for many years now. It hasn’t increased because of the pandemic. And even now that people are out and about more, the amount of time I spend on crafts hasn’t changed.

Yes, it was actually because of the pandemic that I really got back into it—before that, we were on the go too much. And now it’s stuck with me, since my husband eventually got sick and traveling and going out are no longer an option, so the crafts are here to stay. And they’re fun.
And the dolls are great, Inge! Really awesome!

For me, it’s actually been the other way around. Since we were renovating our house during the pandemic and I changed jobs afterward, I had much less time for crafts. Now I’m slowly getting back into it and have a little more time to check in here again.

As for “spending more time outdoors again”:
I take my knitting and crochet supplies with me almost everywhere—
unless the trip is too short or I’m out for a walk.

During the big lockdown, we were still living in Norway, where everything is spread out and far apart. I was on short-time work at the time, so I was at home and had plenty of time for crafts and DIY projects. That was nice.
Since I’ve been back at work here in Germany (working shifts), time has been tight, so I use every free minute for crafts.
Today, for example, I did some paper crafts and dug out my die-cutting and embossing machine again. It was a lot of fun.

So I’d say, yes, I’ve been doing more crafts and DIY projects since the pandemic.

I’m like many others—I’ve been doing crafts since I was a child. Since the amount of free time I had for crafts was the same before and during the pandemic, I kept up my usual amount of crafts. But looking at my sales figures for 2020 and 2021, I noticed that other people definitely did more crafts. Last year, things returned to normal. People no longer have to stay home and keep themselves occupied with crafts; they can travel again, etc.

I think it’s a shame that, due to the many restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, the last few small craft shops I knew went out of business. Those who didn’t also have an online store are now gone.

Best regards, Ina

For me, too, everything has stayed the same. I like to use my free time for crafts. A few days without my needles—and I’m already almost experiencing withdrawal symptoms. ;-)

Many small shops have certainly gone out of business.
In Schleswig, the little yarn shop used to deliver by bike... a quick phone call, and they’d pack it up and deliver it; payment was made with cash in an envelope 😇

I’ve loved doing crafts since I was a child and have never given it up.
It’s a nice way to balance out the stress of work. It helps me unwind wonderfully. That’s why I’ve always spent most of my free time doing crafts.
