My goodness, how time flies

Hello,

everyone—who hasn’t heard this saying—or said or thought it themselves? The older you get, the more often it creeps into your thoughts. Can you still remember the last time you marveled at just how quickly everything is changing?

Feel free to take a little time for some nostalgic thoughts. The Christmas season is always a good time for reflection and taking a moment to pause. Life moves so fast these days that it’s nice to take a moment to remember.

Well, I actually thought of that saying—“My, how time flies”—just yesterday. My grandson Oskar, who just turned 4, told me matter-of-factly that the toys we have stored at our house are all for babies. He’s a big boy now, so he can’t play with them anymore. Just yesterday, he still liked them.

Dear friends, do you have an example of “My goodness, how time flies”?

Warm regards from Ina

Exactly, today as a mom you’re still the greatest, and three days later you’re just embarrassing :-) I’ve guided three of my own kids and a foster daughter through puberty without noticing any lasting psychological damage to myself afterward :-) :-)))))))
Now my youngest daughter’s little girl is reaching that same stage, and I’ve already had a few déjà vu moments :-) When something doesn’t suit her, she has the exact same cheeky mouth her mom had back then. My husband and I have decided to get some popcorn, sit down in our armchairs, and enjoy the whole thing from a distance. It’s nice when they get a taste of their own medicine; I know I’m mean, but that doesn’t bother me one bit :-) :-) :-))))))))
That’s when I noticed once again how time has just raced by

Best, Inge

I notice it myself. Back in the day (which wasn’t even that long ago 🤣), the last three sleeps before Christmas felt like an eeeeternal time; today, the last three months before Christmas are suddenly gone in the blink of an eye!
And then there’s COVID-19… barely had we noticed it, and just like that, three years have flown by—time really does fly, I think.

It really is a phenomenon that time passes faster and faster the older you get.
Back in the day, the 24 doors on the Advent calendar seemed to take sooo long. Today, a day, a week, or a month is nothing at all. Time flies.

Yes, that’s true. Time is just racing past us. Terrible...
How we used to look forward to the 8 weeks of vacation back in our school days (we still had to go to school on Saturdays). What are 8 weeks these days? Nothing.

The same goes for my time abroad in Norway. For me, it was 9 wonderful years, and I often wonder where the time went. It feels like it was only yesterday. Crazy.
Why is it that the older you get, the faster time passes? I don’t want to grow old so quickly 😁. Someone please stop time for a moment.

That’s why we slow down with our hobbies/crafts/vacations/free time

Wishing you all a peaceful Advent season 🎄

Ohhhh yes.  Time has become fast-paced.

I think that's how it is for all of us.
As a child, you were nervous. The Advent calendar was up, and you hoped the new day would dawn soon.
Then it was finally Christmas.

It smelled so good of cookies, Santa Claus came. Even though I was always scared.
You could hardly eat dinner from joy and nervousness. You wanted to play with your new things.

Whatever you got in the 70s during the GDR era.

Oh yes. It was great.

And today. Today you take the decorations up to the attic. Then it's New Year's Eve, and suddenly you're already bringing everything back down again.
That's exactly what I thought again on Saturday when we had brought our self-built pyramid downstairs. Christmas again already. Haha

“Life is like thread on a spool;
the less thread there is left,
the faster the spool spins as it unrolls!”

...and suddenly it’s Christmas again!
Warm regards 🖖

Petra, beautifully written and so true. It feels like time is passing faster and faster.

It’s already Christmas time again, and we’re getting ready for the end of the year.

Now our Christmas tableware will be with us for the next few weeks....

What a beautiful pyramid you have, Sina. Wow, and you built it yourself, too. I really admire that kind of thing.

Your Christmas tableware, Andrea, is also top-notch. I love and cherish things like that very much, too.

Yes, I’ve known that saying—“My, how time flies”—ever since I was a child myself. We say it very often, too, when we see the now-grown-up kids on our street. We still remember some of them from when they were babies and were just learning to walk. Today they drive cars. A little girl next door used to ride her Bobby Car down the street as a toddler, and now she’s almost of legal age and smokes in secret.

Of course, this also shows us how time flies for us as well—and that we’re no longer as young and spry as we were 22 years ago, when we moved into this street. Back then, I still had my secretarial job.

In a little over a year, I’ll be 7 times 10 years old. Oh dear, I’m only slowly getting used to that idea. Oh well. Life is fun, and I have much more time for crafts these days. And I like that. :))

Thanks, mowi19

We bought the sawing instructions in Dresden in 1987.

We transferred it onto wood with an iron and then cut it out with a fretsaw.
11 months. Goodness, that was a lot of work.
It was worth it and fits the theme.
How time flies. It’s now in its 18th year.

Oh, reading your posts really warms my heart. Because everyone knows that feeling.

@ Sina, your wooden pyramid is a dream. And homemade—sawn, glued, varnished, and tried out for the first time with sparkling eyes. Great work. There’s so much love in it. And that love unfolds anew every year when you unwrap it for Christmas.

@ Petra-Perle, I really like your comparison with the spool of thread. That really hits the nail on the head. From now on, whenever I’m sewing and catch a glimpse of the spool, I’ll probably think of that. My “spool” is also only a quarter full now, so it spins pretty quickly.

@ WollwunderPetra,
your Christmas tableware deserves to be admired in detail once a year too. Every year around this time, we get to marvel at it all over again and place our stollen or cookies on it. It looks so beautifully nostalgic—it just gives you something to look at while drinking coffee. Actually, Sina’s pyramid would go perfectly with it :-)

@everyone. Your memories are lovely. They fit perfectly into this quiet Christmas season. Just take a moment to pause and remember the good things and the past. It’s all part of our lives and makes us who we are. And by tomorrow, even today will be part of our past. So let’s enjoy the day!

I wish all readers of this thread a wonderful, peaceful time for reflection.

Warm regards, Ina
