The “Live Love Laugh” placemat makes a great decoration for the dining table. The butterflies and lettering are created by combining stockinette stitch and garter stitch. Since each row is written out stitch by stitch, this pattern is suitable even for beginners. If you prefer to count the stitches yourself, you’ll also find a separate knitting chart for the motif.

Also suitable for beginners are these zodiac sign motifs, which can be knitted as washcloths or dishcloths. Using thick cotton yarn, you can even turn them into pot holders. Here, too, only knit and purl stitches are needed. All zodiac signs are available as patterns in my shop, and there’s also a value set with all 12 zodiac signs. Here’s the example for “Libra.”

When crocheting hand puppets, you’ll almost inevitably use different materials. Cotton yarn works best for the head and hands. It can also be used for the body, but often people use other yarns too, such as chenille or glitter yarn for royal robes. Mohair yarn or plush yarn is then used for the hair and beards.
Let me show you what I mean:

For the princess, silver glitter yarn was used for the trim and the crown. The hair is made of mohair yarn, and the gown is made of cotton yarn with glitter thread (Catania Glamour).

For the wizard, I also used cotton yarn with glitter thread for the robe and hat (this time from Rico). At the hem, you can see a border made of silver sponge yarn. The beard and hair are crocheted with white fringed yarn (Peppina by Lana Grossa).

And finally, the Rainbow Fairy. Here I also worked with fabric: the collar and the veil on the hat are made of tulle in rainbow colors. The hair is again made of mohair yarn, the dress is made of gradient sock yarn, and the rest is made of cotton yarn.

For these Christmas tree ornaments , I used glitter paper and hologram paper in addition to photo cardstock, because all these types of paper combine beautifully!

The ornaments, which measure approximately 5 x 9 cm, can also be made using other sturdier specialty papers. They’re well-suited for crafters with a little experience and good dexterity.
