When crocheting
hand puppets, you’ll almost inevitably use different materials. Cotton yarn works best for the head and hands. It can also be used for the body, but often people use other yarns too, such as chenille or glitter yarn for royal robes. Mohair yarn or plush yarn is then used for the hair and beards.
Let me show you what I mean:

For the
princess, silver glitter yarn was used for the trim and the crown. The hair is made of mohair yarn, and the gown is made of cotton yarn with glitter thread (Catania Glamour).

For the
wizard, I also used cotton yarn with glitter thread for the robe and hat (this time from Rico). At the hem, you can see a border made of silver sponge yarn. The beard and hair are crocheted with white fringed yarn (Peppina by Lana Grossa).

And finally, the
Rainbow Fairy. Here I also worked with fabric: the collar and the veil on the hat are made of tulle in rainbow colors. The hair is again made of mohair yarn, the dress is made of gradient sock yarn, and the rest is made of cotton yarn.
