Wool for gloves / fabric for gloves?

What kind of wool or fabric is best for gloves?

For glove fabric, I’d go with either sweatshirt fabric or fleece—it’s warm, and you won’t need a lining for the gloves.
For knitted gloves, choose a yarn that doesn’t felt, since gloves tend to get wet in the winter when playing in the snow. It shouldn’t be too thick, either.

For knitting gloves, I’d use sock yarn—it’s durable, machine-washable, and it doesn’t matter if the gloves get wet! I’d only use thicker yarn for mittens, and even then, I’d make sure it’s at least superwash-treated so it doesn’t felt!

For knitted gloves, I like to use a sturdy yarn with a hand-spun feel. Preferably in DK or Sport weight. These yarns can handle a little moisture and are durable. Gloves, in particular, have to withstand a lot: they’re constantly in motion—you’re touching things, carrying bags, pushing strollers, pulling sleds... The yarn can’t be too fine, or you won’t be able to enjoy them for very long.
