Making a Gift for Grandma

Hi everyone,
My mother-in-law’s birthday is next week, and I actually wanted to make something with Anton, but I don’t really have any ideas. Last year we painted a vase. Anton doesn’t have a lot of patience, so it can’t take too long.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Best wishes

Sandra

Filling a bottle with alternating colorful layers of decorative sand should be something he can manage? Maybe add a few marbles or shells too? Add a nice card, and maybe Anton can draw a picture?

I have a free pattern for that here

Dear Sandra

How about hand-painted cork coasters? It’s a useful gift that lets you get creative.

You can paint the coasters with a marker or acrylic paints, for example. I especially like modern graphic patterns, which are relatively easy to create using masking tape. Finally, it’s best to spray the coasters with varnish or coat them with varnish so the color lasts.

Best regards
Julia

When I was a kid, we used to paint mason jars with paint, sprinkle mustard seeds on them, and let them dry.
I wouldn’t use food for that now. Maybe we could use something else—like small, dry leaves.

How about a little bouquet of wildflowers for the vase she already has?

I’m a grandma myself. What makes me happiest are gifts that include photos of the kids. For example, you could make a picture frame or something else and pair it with a photo. A small, homemade photo album would also be a great idea. That would be a real treat for me as a grandma.

I’m always happy to receive gift certificates. Time with my grandchild and the kids. A picture drawn by Anton, showing a place to visit (zoo, swimming pool, etc.)

Here, our grandson drew a roller coaster

The text here is always written by my daughter. Our grandson likes to draw, but not so much to write.

And if Anton doesn’t feel like drawing, maybe he’d like to cut things out—just print out the destination from the internet and he can cut and paste.

Thanks so much for the great tips

Petra: The hand-drawn vouchers are really cute. Today we decorated a picture frame with a lovely photo of my husband and Anton.

Oh, that turned out really nice, Sandra. I’d be soooo happy to receive a gift like that! It’s sure to be a hit.

Pictures—especially in such a pretty frame—will definitely get put on display or hung up. To be completely honest, I’ve kept other handmade items in a box because I don’t really know what to do with them and I don’t have the space. But pictures are always a lovely gift.

For Christmas, we always get a photo calendar with pictures of the kids—and sometimes with the parents too—taken throughout the year to match the seasons. That’s a real highlight for us. With this calendar and the large photos, we always have the family with us.

We always give a photo book as a Christmas gift—with photos from one birthday to the next.

It’s always a big hit.

I also think this picture is really special. The three of us were at a wedding, and they both look so great.

Be sure to let us know how it goes. I’m sure she’ll love it. Her own son working on a project with her grandson—that’s something really special.

That looks really great with those rhinestone stickers—especially the colorful ones.
Every grandma would be happy to receive a homemade card or, like here, a framed photo.
Great

Kind regards
