Processing leftover yarn rather than buying new yarn at the moment?

Dear users, dear authors,
everything is getting more expensive right now. Are you deliberately using up more leftover yarn instead of buying new yarn?
It would be nice if you’d like to share something about that.

If you have a Facebook account, could you like the new FB page about using up leftover yarn? I’d really appreciate that.
You’ll find the link in my signature. I / we are grateful for every like.

Have you already joined the leftover-yarn processing race?

Hi Josefa,
I just checked out the Facebook page for leftover yarn that you mentioned. I saw that I could post something there too. Is that how it’s supposed to work? Can anyone post there, or do you have to be a member of CP?
Do you manage the page?

I’ve been using up old yarn and leftover yarn for months now.
New yarn will have to wait.

Getting rid of that yarn mountain is always a good thing.

I always intend to work through my stash, but when new yarns in gorgeous colors come on the market, I end up giving in again.

Josefa, I wasn’t thinking of anything specific. I just saw that it might be possible. That’s why I wanted to know who can post there and whether it’s even encouraged.

Right now, it seems like everyone is trying to save money. No one knows where food and gas prices are headed. Everything else—building materials, wood, electronics—has gotten more expensive, too. There’s hardly anything left that hasn’t gone up in price. But incomes haven’t kept pace. So you have to be careful about what you spend your money on. That’s why I’m not buying any new yarn right now. The goal is to make something beautiful out of the leftovers. That works, too. For special occasions, though, when I want to knit or crochet something for someone, I do invest in new yarn.

I think the idea of a “leftover yarn Facebook page” is great. That’s the trend these days. Don’t just buy new all the time—reuse leftovers for both environmental and economic reasons.

Best regards, Ina

A few years ago, when I was crocheting a lot, I built up a huge stash of yarn, which I’m now using up very slowly since my finger arthritis has limited what I can do. I haven’t bought any new yarn in over a year.

I’m also trying to use up my yarn stash to make new things. Since I have a lot of ideas for smaller projects right now, that’s working out pretty well.

However, I gave in yesterday. There was some felting yarn left over at the discount store. It was only 1/3 of the original price, so I picked up enough yarn to make two pairs of shoes.

I ordered some new yarn because I was tired of using up my leftovers, but there seem to be delivery issues—it was supposed to arrive a week ago.
Otherwise, I still have plenty of yarn here for other projects, but I just can’t seem to get motivated right now.

My box of yarn arrived yesterday. Last year, before Real closed down, I bought yarn and filet crochet thread for 50% off. There’s still some leftover yarn, and I’ve been thinking about what to do with it. I don’t have any more yarn scraps.

A while back, I was given a large amount of virgin wool from an estate. I’ve now crocheted myself some socks from the leftover yarn. They look a bit chunky, but I like to wear another pair underneath them. I’m really sensitive to the cold and have cold feet ten months out of the year.

The socks are beautiful.

@everyone:
How are things going with your yarn and leftover yarn?

I’m still working my way through my stash.

Right now I’m working on a doll jacket, a triangular shawl, and another UFO.

Since I’m working less at my regular job at the moment and have free afternoons, I’m clearing out, tidying up, and sorting through my closets and boxes—and I’m finding yarn I’d completely forgotten about. It’s like unwrapping a surprise package from the mail carrier.
