Storm

Good morning,

How are you all? Did you weather the storm okay?
  We live in Hamburg, but luckily nothing happened in our neighborhood.

The wind really shook the blinds last night, and last night Anton crawled out of bed with Teddy and slept in his play tunnel. He made himself really cozy in there with blankets and stuff. 🤣

Anton knows what he’s doing ;)

Here in the Hochtaunus region, the storm was also quite intense.
Luckily, not much happened.
Our fire department only had to respond once because of a tree on the road.

The western part of Cologne was practically unscathed—it was pretty windy, but that’s about it. I just took a quick walk outside; there aren’t even any broken branches lying around—we got lucky.

The wildlife park near us was closed for cleanup work; since it’s located in a wooded area, a lot of branches broke off and some trees even fell over. It’ll take time to clear all that away and get things back in order.
It was really windy here in our village, but thankfully nothing happened.
The only thing I can feel is my bones—the storm really took its toll on them again.

Unfortunately, we have a completely destroyed greenhouse to lament. I had given it to my husband 5 years ago when he took early retirement. Every year it gave us huge amounts of cucumbers, lettuce, and herbs. Now it is completely broken and beyond repair. .

Otherwise, everything that wasn't screwed down flew all over the place. Our neighbor has huge stacks of wood that he had covered with large, heavy metal sheets to protect them from the rain. They all flew onto the road and clattered around there all night. Sleep was out of the question. In the avenues of Brandenburg, which run through a lot of forest, many trees have fallen. But the fire department has already been busy sawing.

Oh dear, Ina, that’s frustrating. The storm really ruined all your hard work.

Around here, trees have fallen on cars, roads have been closed, and roofs have been torn off.
It’s enough to scare you. But everything’s okay here.

That’s true—“our lovingly done work destroyed.” Our 3½-year-old grandson will ask us where the greenhouse is, the one where he diligently helped me water things last summer. That was his favorite thing to do. I even bought him a little mini watering can just for him. And he was allowed to carry the cucumbers out of the greenhouse...

For an 87-year-old lady who’s currently having an extension built for a ground-floor bathroom (she can’t manage the stairs anymore), the temporary roof (since construction isn’t finished yet) was torn off. Now she can look straight up into the clouds from her new bathroom. Everyone is now trying to find a roofer who can cover the roof temporarily. The inside of the bathroom is already finished because the contractors were faster with that part. But finding a roofer today is apparently difficult.

Oh, Ina. I’m so sorry to hear about your greenhouse.

That situation with the elderly lady is really tough. It’s probably going to be really hard to find a roofer right now.

Oh no, Ina, that looks bad. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you’ll get the damage covered and fixed so your plants have a home again this year.
I’m also sorry to hear about the damage to the old lady’s plants.

We had a snowstorm here 10 minutes ago with some really nasty gale-force winds. We have a forest right next to our property, and we’re constantly checking to make sure no trees fall onto our lot—three have fallen so far, but luckily they’ve all landed in the forest.

I hope you have a week that isn’t too stormy. 

We’re having classic April weather right now: sunshine and snow flurries are taking turns.

The wind has died down noticeably here today, but the rain has picked up instead. I really wonder where all that water is supposed to go.
