If you’d like to try knitting with a set of double-pointed needles, this is an easy-to-follow hat pattern. The pattern uses only knit and purl stitches. The pattern will guide you round by round. 



For crochet, I’d recommend this pattern. The headband can be easily adjusted to fit any head size. You should already know how to crochet single crochet, double crochet, and half double crochet. This crochet pattern is also very detailed.

The fruit coasters are an ideal project for crochet beginners. They are super easy and still very decorative. They are also quick to finish and can be made with leftover yarn.
