Catherine's wheel stitch = a pattern with cluster stitches?

I read something online about the Catherine's wheel stitch. Can this be translated as a wheel pattern, or is it more of an arch pattern? To me, it looks like cluster stitches in a circle or semicircle in the videos. What is this pattern used for?

Oh, that looks a bit like the pattern on my pillow. I found the pattern in my pattern book back then, and it was called “Firewheel.” You crochet lots of double crochets into one stitch, with single crochets between them. Like peaks and valleys. And in the next row, you crochet all those double crochets into the “valleys.”

  I’ve already made a pillow, a child’s hat, and a baby blanket using this pattern. I really like this pattern because I can crochet with different colors.
