Exercise to Fight COVID-19 Weight Gain

Hi everyone,
do you also struggle with sitting too much and gaining weight around your hips?
For me, it’s partly because of all the crafting I do and partly because of the pandemic—my hips and belly have really put on some extra padding.
That’s why I bought a fitness tracker three weeks ago that counts my steps. Thanks to an app, I also have lots of fun features to play with on my phone. That really motivates me.
I started with a goal of 8,000 steps, but I increased it to 9,000 after just one week. Then I had to go out and buy some decent walking shoes. I went to a specialty store for running shoes and got great advice there.
After an electronic step analysis, the salesperson told me:
"You have a slight outward positioning of your left foot, but that is, excuse me, due to your age". :)))  I bought them anyway. I put the shoes on right away, and I have to admit, it’s like night and day. Now I walk about 10,000 steps or more every day. The scale is going down, and I feel great.
So far, though, the weather’s been fantastic—let’s see how it goes.
Warm regards
Petra

it's great when you can move around without feeling like you're about to land on your backside because your strength is fading, or when pain makes any movement, no matter how small, bring tears to your eyes. But I also had too many corona kilos on, and since Easter I've lost 12 kilos just by eating half as much and changing my diet. For me that means more protein, lots of fresh vegetables, fish, and if meat, then poultry — that way the pounds come off too

Best, Inge

I was lucky and managed to maintain my weight. I’d already lost a good 20 kg early last year. I changed my diet and made sure there were at least ten hours between dinner and breakfast....
And I have a “running partner”—she weighs just under 50 kg and is a St. Bernard mix. She loves long walks—4–5 km is the least we walk… every morning, no matter if it’s sunny, rainy, or snowy… Emely wants to go. It’s so great that she’s here; it gives me a little “positive pressure” to go for walks regularly… Plus the evening romp in the meadow…

Yes, Inge, that pain is awful. I know what it’s like from my husband. He’s getting his first injection during an MRI on Tuesday. We’re hoping it’ll bring him some relief.
I’m still lucky enough to be able to move around without pain. It’s just my feet, and that was taken care of with the shoes.
Your weight loss from the diet change is amazing!!!! I can get used to eating poultry instead of meat, but my husband can’t. But that’s not a problem, either.
I hope your pain gets better.
Warm regards
Petra

Oh Steffi, what a success! Your running partner is, of course, the best motivation. There’s no question of whether you can overcome your "inner couch potato"; you simply have to get out there.

Here’s another tip for when you’re hungry: instead of eating something, drink a glass of milk or have a piece of cheese—it takes the edge off your hunger, keeps your stomach busy for a while, and gives you some peace. It’s definitely better than stuffing yourself with who-knows-what kind of snacks or sweets, etc.

Love, Inge

Oh yes.... you’ve got to get out there.... today was the first day at the new dog training school.... So even more exercise 🙈👍
While losing weight, I drastically cut back on bread...
And I had help from a really lovely nutritionist—completely free of charge and without any “you have to do it this way” or “that’s forbidden”.... My health insurance offers this service, and she’s just great.

The 3 gift bags with Christmas motifs are just the right size to wrap a bottle of wine, a pack of gingerbread, a jar of jam, a few cookies, or something of a similar size. The bags can be reused every year for St. Nicholas Day or Christmas.  This gives you decorative and sustainable packaging, especially for small gifts with unusual shapes.
