Fabric Market :)

Hi everyone,

I just saw that the Stoffmarkt Holland is taking place in our town this Sunday.

Has anyone been there before? I think I’ll check it out.
Does anyone have any tips on what I should definitely keep an eye out for or buy there?
Will any of you happen to be in VS on Sunday, too? :)

Hi Krea_Tina, I’ve been there before. The trucks loaded with fabric travel all over the place and draw crowds at markets. So, it’s always crowded and packed. And that’s because the fabrics are very affordable. There are tons of fabric bales. The vendors have organized themselves so that one booth only sells cotton fabrics, the next only tulle or silk. You can also find buttons, ribbons, sewing thread, and stuffing—even in bulk packs. High-quality silk fabrics—the kind I was looking for—were harder to find.

I made a point of getting there extra early because I didn’t want to be surrounded by a crowd and wanted to browse in peace. The plan worked out well. An hour after opening, it was already packed to the brim, with people standing shoulder to shoulder, and you couldn’t even get near the fabric bales anymore. That would have annoyed me. So here’s my tip: Get up early!

The salespeople are all quick on their feet—but it’s like being at a fair. So it’s not necessarily a line; whoever shouts the loudest gets served first.

It’s probably not as crowded during the pandemic. So you might get lucky then. I hope you have a great time fabric shopping.

A Holland Fabric Market like this is an experience at its finest—I’ve been to a few and it’s always been fun. Ina’s tips are great, and you should definitely follow them; otherwise, you’ll often end up standing around until your legs ache.

I read about it here sometimes too, and I’ll go check it out at some point.

I’m curious to see if anyone else has more tips or stories about it. That way, as a newbie, you’ll also have an idea of what the fabric market is all about.

I really can’t sew at all.... But I had to go there too, just to look around and marvel at all the beautiful fabrics there are.... 
My tip 🙈: take someone with you who can help carry things.... 
I actually bought several meters of fabric to “reupholster” chairs, new cushions for the camper, and so on.... (every seam is sewn by hand 😇🙈)
