How long are you a beginner? There are certainly different levels of beginners.

For those who can just about crochet single crochet stitches and spiral rounds, I recommend these great fruit-shaped coasters :

They are best crocheted from cotton yarn in the appropriate colors and are really child’s play. The coasters can also be used as glass covers to keep wasps or other insects from falling into your glass. A standard-thickness straw fits through the hole in the middle. That way, your drink is well protected.
