My patchwork blankets/quilts

Except for the Africa quilt and the Sweden quilt—the Sweden one was for my husband—they’ve all gone off to family members. Some were birthday gifts, like the knight quilt for my oldest grandson; the baby quilt was for my youngest granddaughter; and the colorful one was for my godmother on her 80th birthday. The one at the top is a quilt made from shopping bags that I sewed at one point and that eventually got out of hand; my middle daughter hauled that one away
This is just a small selection of my quilts

Best regards, Inge

Thanks, Josefa. I have another quilt—it’s sewn from old summer dresses and blouses belonging to me and my daughters; the back is made from my sister’s old bed linens. This quilt is a true “turn old into new” project—that’s the actual origin of these patchwork quilts. Back then, the emigrants to the New World didn’t let anything go to waste; everything was reused.
Best regards, Inge

These days, they call that “upcycling,” and it’s totally trendy. :-)

Beautiful, Inge! My mom sewed something like this for the kids. She incorporated my grandmothers’ aprons into them—so, in memory of our great-grandmother, the kids would crawl around on them. What’s really lovely is that my daughter had a little boy last year, and now he’s lying on these blankets. I was touched.

Wow, Inge, is that just a “small selection”? You’ve been—and still are—incredibly hardworking. And every quilt is different. And each one holds a few memories. I especially love the ones that incorporate old pieces of clothing. Or the ones for kids—I like those, too.
Thank you for sharing.

Best regards, Ina

Ina, I have 3 daughters, 5 grandchildren, and 3 sons-in-law. My daughters and grandchildren have each received up to 3–4 quilts from me, and my sons-in-law have each received one. I myself have a large laundry basket with quite a few quilts still in it. When we moved 18 months ago, I broke up my huge quilt collection and gave out some more blankets to my kids.
I also still have some patchwork wall hangings lying around—but I’m not making any more, because where would I put all this stuff?

My mandala quilt wall hanging is sewn using PP—PP stands for paper piecing, which means the pattern is on paper and you have to sew the fabric along the pre-drawn lines; it’s not that easy.

Yes, Inge, with such a large family, quite a few quilts add up. And everyone has their own wishes and preferences. It's great that you were/are able to make them all happy with them.

I especially like the mandala quilt wall hanging because I like mandalas very much - also very beautiful.

You and your sewing machines - you really are a great team!

Best wishes from Ina
