Faces for Dolls / Animals / Amigurumi: Tips and Tricks

Do you have any tips and tricks for making cute faces for animals, dolls, amigurumi, etc.?

It’s actually not that easy to get a cute face just right. Many people make the mistake of placing the eyes too high up. For a childlike (and therefore cute) face, the eyes should be positioned halfway up the head (or even a little lower) and not too close together. The eyes and mouth should form roughly an equilateral triangle.
For beginners, I don’t think safety eyes are the best choice, because they’re inserted while crocheting and can’t be adjusted afterward.  In that case, eyes that you sew on or glue on are better. That way, you can test the position beforehand and mark it with a pin before attaching them. If you want to embroider eyes but don’t have much practice yet, you can also embroider the eyes onto a piece of felt and then sew them on.
And otherwise, as with all handicrafts: practice makes perfect!

What I always find most important... are slightly larger eyes and that sparkle in the eyes... The sparkle is often just 2–3 stitches with white yarn... But it really brings the whole face to life... The nose should also just be hinted at... A prominent nose is often the reason why a face no longer looks cute... At least, that’s my opinion and my experience
