When the craft project is finished, you feel happy to have accomplished or completed something again.
Since my hands can’t sit still, I start planning the next project right away. However, the selection is so huge that it’s hard to decide, which is why I sometimes work on several projects at once—depending on what kind of yarn I still have in stock, since I’m on a “yarn diet.” For now, that means only smaller projects are in the running.
After finishing a project, I often take what’s called a “creative break” to think about what to do next. Since I also enjoy designing sewing projects, it usually takes a while before I’m ready to start. Thinking about how to do it and how to make it look just right is often even more fun than actually sewing it :-)
I always feel quite sad when something is finished… Because then I don’t have anything left to do… That’s why, when I’m nearing the end, I already try to find some yarn so I can start something new… So I can move straight on to the next thing, so to speak… Then it all starts over again: first I’m happy, and then I’m sad again when something is finished.
I’m always so happy when something is finished—because “after knitting” is “before knitting” :-) By the time I’m nearing the end of a current project, I usually already have lots of ideas for something new swirling around in my head. Sometimes I start sketching out a new idea even before I’ve completely finished the old project. That way, I can transition almost seamlessly from one craft project to the next. And I see it the same way Inge does—I also think that planning, designing, and experimenting are a really great part of the whole project.
I can’t help but agree. By the end of a project, I can’t wait for it to be finished. During that time, I’m already thinking about what I’ll do next. It’s very rare that I find myself without a craft project. That makes me feel really restless.
My feelings vary quite a bit. Sometimes I’m just glad it’s finally done and I can start something new.
Other times I’m sad, because now the yarn is all knitted up and gone, even though I still had so many ideas for this pattern and this yarn.
Then sometimes I’m really proud because I’ve managed to create something new, and the finished piece turned out so beautifully and fits perfectly.
Just like right now with my latest sewing project. I made the pattern myself, based on a finished doll’s smock from my doll (I still have all my doll clothes in the basement). Then I cut out the pieces and just started sewing.
Yeah, that’s how it is for me, too. Right now I’m feeling a bit “restless,” so this “scrap challenge” comes at just the right time—lots of little projects to work on as the mood strikes.
But I also have yarn for three bigger projects lying around here—I just can’t bring myself to start them right now.
And I always have plenty of sock yarn at home; when my crochet mojo fades, I quickly knit up a pair of socks. Sometimes I get a little sad when they’re finished so quickly.
