The otter was chosen as the 2021 Wild Animal of the Year by the German Wildlife Foundation. That’s why I designed Otti the otter, so you can crochet your own wild animal of the year for 2021.
Otti has just caught a big fish and is looking forward to his feast. He’s looking at you a little suspiciously with his big eyes because he doesn’t want to share with you. But once he’s full, he’s happy to cuddle.
To make Otti, you’ll need:
- approx. 50 g brown cotton yarn (Catania by Schachenmayr or similar, LL 125 m / 50 g)
- leftover white fluffy yarn (Rico Baby Teddy Aran, 135 m / 50 g)
- scraps of black yarn for embroidering the nose and claws
- scraps of sock yarn for the fish (Moonlight Bumbo, 462 m per 100 g)
- 2.5 mm crochet hook
- 2.0 mm crochet hook
- stuffing
- 2 black half-pearls, 9 mm in diameter
- 2 googly eyes, 7 mm in diameter
- sturdy black thread for the whiskers and the fishing line
- 1 skewer
- glue
