Dear users, dear authors,
Are there any tips for crocheting cords, or can you knit them as well?

The simplest version would probably be a foundation chain of any length.

As for knitting, I could imagine a cord worked in garter stitch.

Isn’t there also a knitted cord that goes like this:

Cast on 3 stitches using 2 needles from a set of double-pointed needles

Then slide the stitches to the other end—that is, to the right—bring the yarn behind the work to the first stitch and knit it. Then knit the other two stitches and slide all three stitches back to the beginning of the needle.

Keep going like this until you reach the desired length. You can also use more stitches. This way, the knitted piece becomes round.

I did this once years ago, but unfortunately I can’t remember what became of it in the end.

I knit this cord using 4 stitches, using, for example, the last 4 stitches of the earflap on baby hats. It ends up looking
like a cord knitted with a knitting dolly. It’s just much faster.

Crocheted cord, in one or two colors. Chain stitches alone stretch out very quickly, though. I also use this cord, for example, for keychains.
It is started with 3 chain stitches around the key ring. (Crochet the starting yarn into the loops.) These chain stitches are then worked off
one by one. *Slip the last two stitches off the crochet hook (hold the stitches) and crochet the first chain stitch.
Place the second chain stitch back on the hook, crochet this chain stitch (there are now 2 chain stitches on the hook), place the third chain stitch on the hook, and crochet only this one with a chain stitch. (There are now 3 chain stitches on the hook again.)*
There are now 3 chain stitches on the hook again, and you now repeat from * to *.
You can also crochet over two or more chain stitches, depending on how many chain stitches you crochet into the key ring. .

A two-color variation:
Work in a second contrasting yarn. Crochet the chain stitches as usual, placing the contrasting yarn on the hook and
crocheting it in.
The yarn can also be worked into the variation described above by placing it in front of the last chain stitch.

Thanks. I’ll try to put together step-by-step illustrated patterns this weekend and then post them for free. Best regards to the team, Waltraud

Waltraud, I’d love that too. I’d be very interested in these crocheted cords for my little bags. Right now I’m using recycled materials from my stash, but some that match the colors would be great as well.

Waltraud, I’d also like to say thank you for the detailed patterns here. Your tips help me too; they reminded me how I used to do it before (but had forgotten).

I think crocheted cords are great, too. Depending on the yarn weight, you can crochet them thinner or thicker; alternatively, you can use a hand-cranked knitting mill.

I don’t crochet them quite the same way as Maulwurfwaldi.
You also start with 3 ch and crochet 1 sc into the 1st chain stitch, then turn the crochet work slightly away from you to the left and insert the hook sideways into the stitch (the stitch looks like a slanted equals sign), work the stitch off (but not completely—first pick up one more loop, then work it off), turn the crochet piece, work off the slanted stitch from the side again, and so on. I like using this simple technique, also for small crocheted drawstring pouches and the like.

It’s hard to explain—you’ll have to Google it, as there are various variations. But it’s fun!

Since I’ve been busy for days sifting through my computer for photos from the last six years!!!! to create a photo album with “real paper photos” for my grandson, it took me a little while to post the pattern.

The little one already got one for the third birthday. Who knows how much longer this kind of nostalgic photography will be around.  I wish everyone a wonderful Advent season and send warm regards from the rainy North, Waltraud

I’ve already found the pattern and bookmarked it right away.
Thanks a million.

Yes, making an album like that takes time, but it’s worth it. I love looking at albums. And the older we get, the more precious they become.

Have a wonderful Advent season
Warm regards
