Craft Projects Based on Patterns: Any Tips?

Do you have any tips for following patterns?

It’s a good idea to read the instructions carefully—and more than once.

For more complicated patterns, it helps to knit or crochet one or two pattern repeats before starting the project.

Read carefully...... 🙈 
I just had that problem and couldn’t figure out for two days what I was doing “wrong.” .... If I’d knitted what it said, I’d be a whole lot further along by now 😂
So sometimes it really helps to read and work stitch by stitch...
First, I read through everything. Sometimes I sit there and feel a bit stumped, but then it helps to just start and work through it row by row... often it reads more complicated than it actually is to knit or crochet... 
I always have a piece of paper and a pen with me... for my own notes, e.g. abbreviations, so I don’t have to keep flipping back and forth. 
And always make sure to “mark” the rows you’re currently knitting or crocheting, especially important with patterns. 

If you’re not sure whether you can follow a knitting chart, for example, or if you’ve understood certain stitch combinations correctly, maybe start by knitting or crocheting with some leftover yarn to practice. That way, you won’t waste your good yarn, and you won’t feel so much pressure to get it right right away.
