Charity knitting: do you do that?

Hi everyone,
I just got this in my inbox: an annual campaign where you buy a yarn bundle to knit a scarf, and a certain amount goes to refugee children. It’s heavily promoted every year, and I often think the yarn colors are really pretty. But every time I see how much this kit with 5 balls of yarn costs, I just don’t feel like participating. I think it’s way too expensive.

Years ago, I used yarn I already had to make hats for premature babies, and later on, I made sets for the homeless. I enjoy doing that. But a ridiculously expensive kit like this…

Do you guys participate in things like this?

Nope, I feel the same way you do—I’m very happy to make things for premature babies or our local food bank for kids, but only on my own terms, and I don’t buy yarn that’s way too expensive for it.

No, I saw that too. It’s really overpriced, and who knows where the money actually goes. I’m happy to help, but on my own terms.
Best regards, Marita

I completely agree with you. I also knit for a Facebook knitting group that needs all kinds of things for premature babies, a children’s hospice, the homeless, and ovarian cancer patients. I really enjoy doing this and use yarn from my extensive stash. It’s really fun, and you get to see where the items are going. Just recently, I saw a photo of a sick child wearing my cat socks.

Love, Ingrid

They’re great! Perfect for using up leftover yarn...

The price has put me off every year. I like to knit for Advent calendars used at the children’s hospice. I also crochet and knit toys for that. I’m always happy when my crafts are well-received, and I imagine the children’s eyes lighting up!
Best regards, Brigitte
