For me, they happen because I keep having new ideas and too little time. Once I've tried something, the next idea is bound to be more exciting and better. And that's how one UFO follows another. At the moment, I have 5 unfinished things lying on the sofa in the corner.
I like to work on several projects at the same time. So every now and then, one of the projects gets put on hold. But thanks to this forum and the craft group, every UFO has eventually been finished so far.
I’m struggling with a few ancient UFOs—projects I never had time for (e.g., a lace shawl, a men’s sweater, a blanket for the cat), ones where the pattern was unclear and I never got a response from the author (a hippo), or ones where I’m missing the right ring diameter (a window decoration)… Right now, I have a few nearly finished projects (worked on this month) lying around where, for example, I still need to sew on some details or weave in ends. But I’m sure I’ll finish them quickly!
Time-consuming projects are likely to turn into UFOs.
It’s also possible that the project in question isn’t suitable for taking on the go.
In that case, you might opt to bring along something smaller (or simpler) to knit or crochet while you’re out and about.
I have 7 or 8 UFOs right now. UFOs pile up very quickly.
I also work on several projects at the same time. Sometimes I don’t have the time, other times I just don’t feel like it, and then I find something cute and new among all the great pattern offers—which, of course, I have to try out first—so the “old” projects get left behind. Or the yarn I have isn’t enough for this project (I’m on a “yarn diet,” after all), so I start something else.
It’s a never-ending cycle, but I’m trying to finish these UFOs bit by bit.
At least, that’s what I’ve set out to do.
Anyone who no longer has any UFOs by the end of the year or by the end of January will, of course, receive a title and extra points at the awards ceremony in the new year.
--> Proof photos of the half-finished UFOs and the finished projects would be nice. Unraveling also counts as completing a UFO.
