I have something very special to show you.
Why not knit your name as a barcode!
This is
not a normal pattern, but a pattern for designing interesting stripes into an object.
These aren’t just any stripes, but stripes with meaning and flair. The meaning and flair is the barcode. When we define our sequence of rounds or rows this way, we have immortalized our own individual name. It doesn’t matter if nobody can read it, but we ourselves know what it means, and that alone counts :-)
We generate the rows ourselves according to Barcode 128, which includes and can represent numbers as well as lowercase and uppercase letters.
Attention: this pattern includes instructions for a cowl and a shawl.
But stripes can also be calculated for your other projects with this pattern.
If you’d like to know more about Barcode 128, here is a little theory:
Codeword is the term for a character.
A Code 128 codeword always comprises 3 bars and 3 spaces and always consists of 11 modules. For us, that means that a letter or number always consists of 11 rows. The individual bars and spaces can be 1–4 rows wide.
A character begins with a bar and ends with a space. The following character begins again with a bar.
Since, with our barcode, we do not have to worry about scanner readability and therefore the greatest possible contrast, we can use our favorite colors.
In principle, any yarn and needle size can be used for the stripe pattern. How to adjust the size to the yarn and text is described in detail.
