Raglan: knitting increases with a yarn over into the stitch

Hi everyone, I have a question for you experts here:

I’m currently working on this cute sweater for my son, and one detail in the pattern is confusing me so much that I’m starting over from the beginning for the third time.
The pattern says: knit the raglan stitches 3-in-1 with a yarn over: “In the marked stitch, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1 (two stitches increased).” I can’t find this method for a raglan line anywhere else online, which is why I’m asking here in the forum. Otherwise, I’m only familiar with making one yarn over before and one after the raglan stitch, or increases from the strand between stitches, etc.

My question is this:
If I knit the increases INTO the stitch, do I then have to keep re-marking my raglan stitch, specifically the new one that is now in the middle of the old stitch (the yarn over)? Or does my marker stay in the same place? But then my raglan line will be crooked, won’t it?

As you can see, I’m not experienced enough yet to figure this out on my own from this description. Maybe there’s someone here who knows this method and can help me out.

Many thanks and best regards

Hello and welcome, efraims-tochter .
Please don’t include links in your posts. I had to remove the link.
Why not contact the author of this pattern directly?
The author can surely help you.

Ah, okay, thanks so much for the correction! I’ve already contacted the author but haven’t received a reply yet, unfortunately. That’s why I thought I’d reach out to a few experienced knitters as well.

Hey there....
I’m not familiar with this type of increase either...
The way you described it, you’d actually have to move your marker every time, because the yarn over then becomes the new raglan stitch....
I’d rather knit the “tried-and-true” method... that is, increasing from the strand between the stitches before and after...
Unless the 3-in-1 method works better because a stitch pattern is being worked right next to the raglan seam... then the two knit stitches would probably blend in better with the stitch pattern...
Best wishes, Stephanie

Hi, thank you so much for the reply! Yes, I’ve since tried it this way again, and it actually finally gave me the right result!! Yay!
An interesting and actually very simple raglan method. It’s just that the explanation wasn’t quite complete. At least not for someone like me, who needs the specific note that the new raglan stitch is always formed anew by the yarn over in the middle. Now I’m finally relieved and can keep going. Here’s a photo of the raglan line knitted this way:
