Crocheting with Two or More Colors in Rows

Hi everyone,
I haven’t been crocheting for very long and have a question about crocheting with color changes in every row. Do you always cut the yarn, or can you just let it run along with the work?

Best regards, and thanks in advance for your tips

Hey there....
If you’re only crocheting single crochet stitches, you can easily “carry” the yarn along.... Check out “tapestry”....
There, they crochet with up to 5 colors, and the yarns you’re not currently “using” are carried along and worked into the stitches..  I'm not quite sure how to describe it... But you'll find some really great patterns with explanations here...

Hi RoxysOmaTina, If the color changes only once per row, you can cut the yarn and crochet the cut end right into the next row—that way, you avoid having to weave in so many ends. When changing colors in every row, I always leave the yarn from the last color hanging and pick it up again at the next “change point.” If the colors change within a row, you can use the tapestry technique as Woll-Zauber-Steffi described, but be sure to use the “yarn-under” method (it’s very simple—it just refers to how you pick up the yarn); this way, the colors won’t show through as much as they otherwise would. You can find information on this online or on the well-known video platform. If it’s just a few stitches, I crochet the yarn along so I can make the color change right away; otherwise, you can watch videos on “color changes in motifs”—you can use this technique for all patterns. For this, you’ll need small pieces of cardboard to wrap the yarn around.
You can also “wind mini skeins”—then you won’t need any cardboard. They hold up very well; I tested this method in my latest pattern and will use it again for the next one.

Maybe this helps you out.

Best regards,

Daniela

Thank you so much
I'll work my way through it (crochet my way through it)

Best regards

It depends on the width of the piece.
If it’s not too wide (for me), I let the unused yarn hang along with the work.
Otherwise, I cut it after every row.
