Hi, everyone. Easter was really nice. Anton was totally excited, and it was really fun to watch him. Among other things, he got a shoehorn. He’s always trying to use our big one, and now he has his own. Today I asked him again what he’d gotten from the Easter Bunny. And the first thing he mentioned was the shoehorn.
So it was a total hit.
At lunchtime, we walked to the church where the confirmation class had hidden little chocolate surprises. We’d decided to stop by and see how crowded it was. Since it was completely empty, Anton got to go hunting. He loved that, too.
And in the evening, we had a barbecue… we all ate way too much, but it was really nice.
We also had some lovely days in the garden, with plenty of time for knitting. And nature gave me a special gift. I finally got to see a live mole. A neighbor’s cat was involved—it had probably startled the mole. While it was searching for the entrance, I was able to admire it in all its glory.
Easter was nice and quiet since it’s just the two of us. I had dyed Easter eggs (my mom had to send me the dye all the way from Germany—I can’t get it here). I snacked on lots of chocolate bunnies.
My husband and I did some crafts; the weather wasn’t really suitable for sitting on the patio.
We cooked a delicious meal: fruit tart with whipped cream. Everything was great.
Well, Monika, you really got to experience nature at its best—what a stroke of luck for you with that mole. I haven’t seen one in the wild either, just those molehills. But I do get to watch birds, pigeons, and magpies here—they’re constantly flitting around, and they’re always pooping all over our patio furniture :-)
I was actually supposed to be looking for chocolates with my little grandson in America at Easter…
Instead, my husband and I watched the Easter service from the empty church, and in the afternoon we walked to the parish hall to see the Easter greeting from the confirmands on the facade. At the cemetery, we visited my parents’ grave and couldn’t help but notice how sad the withered plants looked. We really missed the traditional Easter celebrations—starting with the liturgy at six in the morning, followed by the Easter breakfast at the parish hall and the service afterward.
We had a few very relaxing days with great weather.
On Friday, we had the traditional potato pancakes with homemade applesauce—my dad always used to make that when I was a kid; it was the only time of year he was in charge of cooking.
On Saturday, we had our first barbecue on the balcony and sat outside for a long time.
On Sunday, we went for a 2½-hour walk; the weather was just beautiful—we didn’t even need jackets.
I paid the price for that walk on Monday: my eyes were all sticky, and my breathing was wheezy. There was definitely too much pollen in the air. But Monday was also much colder, so it wasn’t hard for me to stay indoors.
In between, we ate way too much and spent a lot of time on the phone. The only thing I missed was seeing people in person.
