Dear users, dear authors,
what are you doing this weekend?

Crocheting, gardening, and going for walks if the weather’s nice.

We have a weekend with absolutely no plans ahead of us.

I hope everyone here has a lovely, sunny spring weekend! :)

I’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors and seeing where the garden needs some tidying up. Going for a walk is also on the agenda, and of course, knitting.

Definitely writing patterns… I have a pile of about 15 finished products that I still need to write up… That means I need more discipline...

Luckily, we live in a house with a big yard, and I also have a pile of yarn and quite a few unread books at home… I can’t quite imagine yet how we’ll spend the next few weeks without all our usual activities and social interactions. Not long ago, no one could have imagined such drastic measures because of a tiny virus, and now public life is practically at a standstill. It’s really getting me down, which is why I’m looking forward to the weekend with some trepidation…

Wollbärli, I can relate—I feel exactly the same way after seeing the news. My boss just told me that we’ll be shutting down operations starting Monday, and he only wants me to come in if something extremely important comes up. Otherwise, I’ll be stuck at home, too. Luckily, I have plenty of yarn... I’m also looking to the future with concern and don’t know yet what to make of all this.

Here, the preschools and such will be closed starting Monday. I’ll probably have to work, but I only work part-time anyway.

Luckily, my husband is home right now, so we’ve got childcare covered. We’re not supposed to visit the grandparents right now, either.

My mother-in-law is in good health and pretty laid-back about it—she still wants to see Anton. But it’s a different story with my mom; she has a heart condition and is scared.

I, too, am worried about the future. But there’s nothing we can do about it.

We’re having to come to terms with the cancellation of our vacation due to COVID-19. I’m sure this sounds incomprehensible to many, but we booked this trip over 1.5 years ago and were really looking forward to it. South Africa—Namibia—Cape Verde—the Canary Islands—Gibraltar—all the way to Mallorca.
Oh well, the garden is running wild right now (maybe it’s happy about it) and is waiting for me to tend to it.

Oh dear, I’m so sorry to hear that. I can totally relate. You get so excited about something—like a vacation—and then something like that ruins it for you.

But it’s great that you can take your mind off things with your garden

I’m working every day this weekend. Luckily, I have to say, because it’s already clear that restaurants will soon have to close as well. The whole team is worried, because we actually have two more big events next week. One of them is a wedding.
Some guests with smaller reservations have already canceled. I can understand that. Our daughter is also off starting Monday, but her teacher wants to send lesson materials by email, and the children are supposed to continue learning at home. Somehow, it has to work.

Well, I’ll have to figure out how to organize the next few weeks…
Daycare is closed, which means the two little girls will be scurrying around me all day… School is closed, which means my son will be hanging around me too…
Meanwhile, I have to organize my work (I work from home anyway), which may sound “convenient” at first, but with the kids around, it becomes a real challenge.
On top of that, I somehow have to manage the many doctor’s appointments and physical therapy sessions with my father, who has lung disease (he’s been living with us for a few months now), ideally without much contact between him and the kids… That’s where my mom (who’s been divorced from him since 1993) will step in and either—for doctor’s appointments where I’m absolutely needed (there are a few important consultations coming up in early April)—look after the kids against the recommendations (my mom is turning 70, but otherwise isn’t in a high-risk group) or drive him to his appointments...though she’s still working three half-days a week...
And then we’ll hope and worry that our law firm and my translation office won’t be shut down for quarantine reasons, because then I’ll really start to fear for our livelihood...

Well, and if there’s any time left in between all that, I’ll try to sew and crochet a few little dresses for the girls, because they keep asking me to...

I wish you all the best...
