Looking for a quick wedding gift—help!

Hi everyone :)

We’re invited to a wedding on Saturday, and I just realized that we need a gift...

As always, I’d like to make something myself.... Unfortunately, I still haven’t gotten around to anything because little Leo always wants to be entertained... Crocheting something nice is out of the question—I won’t be able to manage that.
I’d love to make something quick… But what?

What kinds of cash gifts have you made before? Or what would you make?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Best wishes

Tina

I crocheted around two empty Kinder Surprise egg shells to make a bride and groom (you can find them in my shop, too)
I based the design a bit on what the real bride and groom looked like. The groom had curly hair and the bride had long, reddish hair. The crocheting actually went pretty quickly (2 evenings). The gift was very well received back then.

As a monetary wedding gift, I once made a “million”: I folded several bills and stacked them so that the 1 was visible at the beginning, followed by a series of 0s, until it looked like a bill worth over 1,000,000. I secured the whole thing to a piece of paper (lightly) with tape, decorated it nicely, and put it in a picture frame. I also included a poem for the newlyweds that ended with, “We’re giving you your very first million.”

Warm regards, Sonja

Hi,
it wasn’t for a wedding, but for my niece’s confirmation. I made an explosion box for that. In the side pockets, I put little envelopes with money or a small greeting card. And in the center of the box’s bottom, I made a little Bible...

Thanks for your ideas :)

Ruth, I actually already looked at your cute bride and groom this morning... But I don’t know if I have two whole evenings left :D That’s why I didn’t want to crochet anything at all, because that always takes a while.

A-mano, I think the “million” idea is totally cool, but the bride and groom are pretty “well-off” and definitely much closer to their first million than we are. So I’m not sure how appropriate that is… On the other hand… Then cash gifts would always be a bad idea in that case… After all, everyone could use a million euros ;) I’ll definitely keep it in mind.

I also think the explosion box is great. A Bible wouldn’t be quite ideal in this case (since it’s just a civil ceremony), but you can design it however you want.

Maybe I’ll put a handmade “million” in an explosion box? :) That’d be another idea.

Tina, I made this picture frame for a baby shower—with the right names and wedding date, it would definitely work well for a wedding, too. Only the basket holding the balloon is crocheted, and that’s where you put the money. You can use hearts instead of the balls.

Or the pig with a top hat instead of a party hat

Homemade fortune cookies are also super quick :-)

Mix the batter, bake them, fill them with personalized messages, and pop them into a pretty jar ♥

Just Google “how to make fortune cookies”—it’s really easy (as long as you don’t have a chicken egg allergy)

I once made a “Kieskanne” — a gravel/money watering can. A watering can, pebbles, and money. Then a big sign that said “Kieskanne.”

Or a mousetrap with those white mice sweets

A frying pan with “mice to burn through”
A frying pan, white mice again, done.

Or a basket full of coal — real coal and money

It’s all quick to make and looks impressive.

I once made this little couple using beads and wire. Not sure if that’s your thing, though.
Making a nice card with an origami suit and wedding dress is really easy—just follow video tutorials—and it goes quickly. Spice it up a bit with a punch or embossing machine (if you have one).

Or make a small wooden chest or box and perhaps put a gift certificate inside, or give a small bottle filled with white bird sand and seashells—decorated with little cocktail umbrellas—for an upcoming vacation… there are lots of ideas, but on such short notice?
Or a little beaded tree as a symbol of the tree of life for their marriage.
Buy a large, thick candle and decorate it with candle wax (hearts, clover leaves, or the names of the bride and groom).
I hope I’ve inspired you with a few ideas. Good luck!

Nadeleule, that’s a good idea with the frame and the balloon. I’ll have to remember that, thanks. I also need great inspiration now and then.

I knew the idea of making a million out of banknotes too, but I did it with play money.

That just gave me another idea: you could also make a kind of novelty raffle as a quick gift. You often have small items at home, such as a ballpoint pen = a travel typewriter; 2 packets of soup and 1 small mini candle = a candlelight dinner for two; 1 box of matches = an evening by the fireside for two; 1 spring from the ballpoint pen = so there’s always some spark between you, or something like that;

I made a kind of survival suitcase for my parents’ golden wedding anniversary (an ordinary children’s cardboard suitcase), with little things inside wrapped in a funny way. Take a look on YouTube for “funny emergency suitcase”; maybe you’ll find something there.
