Secret tips for fighting a cold!

Hi everyone,

I’ve caught a cold again, and since I want to be in good shape for Christmas, I’m trying out every tip I can get my hands on :-)

Maybe you’d like to share your miracle cures here.

I just tried a tip from a friend—it’s totally gross, but it works really well.

Onion-thyme-honey

Puree 1 onion, cover it with honey, and add some thyme. Let it sit for a bit, then take a teaspoon every now and then throughout the day.

So what helps me is squeezing oranges, mixing the juice with a teaspoon of honey, and drinking it.
Another thing that helps is the so-called “drastic cure,” but please never do this if you’re home alone. Run water as hot as you can tolerate into the tub, then soak in it for 10–15 minutes, then get out—but don’t dry off; just wipe the water off. Wrap yourself in a sheet, put a wool blanket over it, and go to bed, covering yourself as much as you can tolerate. To prevent heart palpitations, wrap a cooling pad in a kitchen towel and place it on your heart. This way, you’ll sweat it all out and be pretty much symptom-free afterward. I was given this *drastic cure* back in the mid-90s during a health retreat.

A foot bath as hot as you can stand.
Add a salt steam bath and linden blossom tea.

The foot bath isn’t as hard on your circulation, and the water can actually be hotter than in a full bath.

I came down with it on Tuesday. Stuffy head, runny nose, a slight sore throat. Since yesterday I’ve been feeling reasonably well again.

I’ve been drinking lots of tea with honey and ginger slices since Tuesday, swear by mint drops at night to clear my nose, and rest on the sofa.

As a preventive measure, a healthy diet with plenty of vegetables and fruit, and fresh air.

Onion juice has also helped me with a cough. I can only recommend it.

I think you can make a cold more bearable, but it just takes time. And the older I get, the worse the first two days are.

In any case, I hope you’re fit again by Christmas so you can enjoy the celebration.

Get well soon
