Advent isn’t really the time for reindeer, gnomes, and elves. I think we should get back to focusing on the core of the Christmas message.
Today I’d like to introduce you to a special Advent calendar: a nativity scene made of hand-crocheted nativity figures.
Why an Advent calendar? Because it lets you reenact a part of the Christmas story every day during Advent. A new figure is added each day:
I picture it something like this:

Mary (December 1)

receives the message from the angel (December 2) that she will give birth to Jesus.

Excited, she tells Joseph (December 3)

With their donkey (December 4), they set off for Bethlehem...
and so on... On December 24, you place the Baby Jesus in the manger, which has been empty until then.
In my shop, you’ll find 3 patterns for nativity figures:
Holy Family
Shepherds, Sheep, Angels
Three Wise Men with their animals
That’s a total of 19 crocheted pieces. If you crochet a few more sheep or shepherds and/or add a nativity scene house, bales of straw, a broom, a rake, a bucket, or other tools as elements, you’ll have 24 pieces and can complete your nativity scene a little more each day. This is especially fun for children.
It’s best to start crocheting right away! You can crochet your figures using leftover yarn, since each figure doesn’t require much yarn. In the patterns, I specify for each piece which type and how much yarn I used. This will help you figure out which of your leftover yarns you can use. And in the end, you’ll have your very own nativity figures that bear your personal touch.
