Advent isn’t really the time for reindeer, gnomes, and elves. I think we should get back to focusing on the core of the Christmas message.

Today I’d like to introduce you to a special Advent calendar: a nativity scene made of hand-crocheted nativity figures.
Why an Advent calendar? Because it lets you reenact a part of the Christmas story every day during Advent. A new figure is added each day:

I picture it something like this:

Mary (December 1)
receives the message from the angel (December 2) that she will give birth to Jesus.
Excited, she tells Joseph (December 3)
With their donkey (December 4), they set off for Bethlehem...
and so on... On December 24, you place the Baby Jesus in the manger, which has been empty until then.

In my shop, you’ll find 3 patterns for nativity figures:
Holy Family

Shepherds, Sheep, Angels

Three Wise Men with their animals
That’s a total of 19 crocheted pieces. If you crochet a few more sheep or shepherds and/or add a nativity scene house, bales of straw, a broom, a rake, a bucket, or other tools as elements, you’ll have 24 pieces and can complete your nativity scene a little more each day. This is especially fun for children.
It’s best to start crocheting right away! You can crochet your figures using leftover yarn, since each figure doesn’t require much yarn. In the patterns, I specify for each piece which type and how much yarn I used. This will help you figure out which of your leftover yarns you can use. And in the end, you’ll have your very own nativity figures that bear your personal touch.

These cute little gnomes make a really great Advent calendar—for young and old alike. They can be crocheted in any size. And they’re a great way to use up lots of leftover cotton yarn.

The gnomes are then filled with small gifts. And on December 24, there’s the gnome house with a bigger gift.

Very easy to crochet—a lovely project even for beginners with basic skills.

How about a homemade Advent wreath made of pom-poms?
You can use up your leftover yarn and end up with a really great and unique Advent wreath. It doesn’t shed and is very decorative. You can hang it on the door or place it on the table. Feel free to check out my examples.

The free pattern is available here: Pom-Pom Advent Wreath.

I hope you have lots of fun with this creative project.
Best regards - Ina

All children love Christmas calendars. As parents or grandparents, there’s no getting around that. And because all of us here at CP love doing crafts, we can crochet one from yarn.

We’ll crochet 24 little gift bags. We can arrange and decorate them on a tray or hang them on a clothes hanger. The little red stars with the numbers (included as a printable template) are attached to the bags with mini clothespins. Of course, you still need to fill the bags with candy and surprises :-)

--> Click here for more pictures, information, reviews, and the pattern.

I hope you enjoy this project. Yours, Ina

PS. After Christmas, you can also use the little bags for a colorfully set Easter table or as small gift bags for a child’s birthday party.

Filled St. Nicholas stockings are always very popular during the run-up to Christmas, too. This one is very special, because you can crochet it in the favorite colors of the person you’re giving it to. It doesn’t always have to be in the classic Christmas colors—it can also be bright pink, rose, and white. Everyone would probably love one like that.

I hope you have lots of fun crocheting, filling, and giving it as a gift.
Yours, Ina

Even if you’re new to crafts, you’ll have no trouble making this Advent calendar. Since it’s made up of individual stars, it’s not a big deal if your cutting, folding, or gluing isn’t perfectly precise.

All the calendar stars are made of cardstock and measure approximately 17.5 x 17 x 4.5 cm each. The calendar is very easy to make and is even suitable for crafting with children. Of course, you can also use the individual stars as gift boxes for small Christmas treats.

If filling Advent calendars and setting up an Advent wreath are both essential parts of your family’s Christmas traditions, then you can make things a little easier for yourself with this calendar: Simply attach four candles in the center and decorate them with a few small fir branches—and the calendar can double as an Advent wreath!

This Advent calendar is made of photo-quality cardstock and measures approximately 33.5 x 35.5 x 5.5 cm; the space in the center has a diameter of about 17 cm and is large enough for four candles. It’s very easy to recreate for crafters with a little experience.

You still have plenty of time to make Advent calendars. If you start right away, you can then fill them with gifts at your leisure and save yourself a lot of stress during the pre-Christmas season.

This Advent calendar is made of cardstock and measures approximately 17.5 x 22 x 20.5 cm. Assembling the individual calendar containers is very easy, even for craft beginners, but to ensure everything fits together properly in the end, it is very important to work accurately and carefully.
