Hi everyone,
to crochet a curly tail for a crocheted animal that will be stuffed with stuffing, the (English-language) pattern tells me to crochet a few slip stitches for the smaller inner radius, then single crochet over them in the next round, followed by a few more slip stitches, and so on. There’s no indication of which stitch or stitches I should insert the hook into for the single crochet. It’s kind of too tight to insert the hook into both loops, as you would with single crochet stitches. ;-) Can anyone tell me what’s the best way to do this?
Thanks so much and best regards

Could it be that this is simply a misunderstanding and that they actually mean chain stitches? In English, those are called “chain,” which translates to “Kette” in German. Slip stitches are called “slip stitch” in English.
If that’s not the problem, please ignore me.
I crocheted the slip stitches a little more loosely and then inserted the hook into only one loop. This resulted in a sort of step on one side of my crochet piece, but it didn’t look bad or wrong to me.
So, to make a curly tail
, crochet a few chain stitches. Then turn your work and crochet three, four, or even five single crochets into each chain stitch.
The number of single crochets per chain stitch is probably specified in the pattern.
This type of curly tail is also called corkscrew
.
Have fun!

If necessary, you can stretch the slip stitches a bit wider with a blunt darning needle... otherwise, just make sure to always crochet the slip stitches loosely.
Yes, that’s right. I use this technique for my cloud, too :-)
You insert the hook into both loops of the slip stitches—and it is a little fiddly. However, this allows you to shape the curve relatively invisibly. You can also just insert the hook into the front loops, though.
