UFO Killers and Yarn Mummies // Are There UFOs Without Yarn Too?

Dear users, dear authors,
just asking the group:
How many UFOs (unfinished objects, started and set aside) do you currently have, and how many have you already completed since you joined Crazypatterns?

Would you like to show pictures of your current UFOs / yarn mummies?

Are there UFOs in sewing / crafting / felting, etc. too, or do you absolutely need yarn for a UFO?

Let me know.

You can join the monthly handicraft round here. The last week of each month is always dedicated to UFOs. Anyone who completes at least one UFO becomes UFO Queen.

Thanks to this wonderful crafting group here, with its monthly awards, I don’t have a single UFO left right now. It’s a huge motivator, and it’s fun to look at everyone else’s finished projects and show my own.

Does a cluttered office/craft room/guest room also count as a UFO? What about unironed laundry?
Somewhere deep in the closet, there’s still a cut-out pair of culottes, and there are quite a few wool UFOs—some dating back to the age of the dinosaurs… I think I need to go on a pattern diet now!

Oh yes, I used to have sewing UFOs, too, until I threw them all away.
Actually, I’m the kind of person who finishes what I start, because unfinished projects make me feel dissatisfied and nervous.
And when it comes to embroidery, I often have UFOs, too, because a tablecloth like that takes quite a long time, and I have to do something else in between.

I think I’m turning into a “work-in-progress killer.” Last night I realized that both the front pieces of my coat are a good 15–20 cm longer than the back piece, and I could just cry! The back piece is knitted row by row in a pattern, so that’s not where the mistake lies—I must have miscounted the number of rows for the front pieces. Now I have to reknit them from scratch. The coat has an A-line cut and is knitted in a seed stitch, so unfortunately, shortening it from the bottom won’t work. (At least, I can’t do it.)
This project is really driving me crazy!

All UFOs count. All kinds of needlework count, and all unfinished projects count too — even those beyond needlework. You can include those in UFO Week as well.

Oh, Mel, you have my sympathy—but also my admiration for your patience! I probably would’ve tossed that thing in the corner ages ago! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you stick with it. The coat looks so great!

Thanks, Ruth—that’s nice of you :)
I don’t like UFOs, and I’m way too excited about the finished coat to give up on it. The first one turned out well, so I’m sure I’ll manage this one too. Yesterday I was really furious with myself (my husband thought my tantrum was pretty funny, though). But today I’m taking it more calmly. If I’d been sewing something, it would’ve been worse—luckily, you can always unravel yarn!

Oh Mel,
I can imagine you were frustrated. But your coat is going to be gorgeous when it’s finished.
I’m currently making a jacket for my daughter. It’s the same pattern I used for my own crocheted one. I could have thrown it in the corner too. I’ve started over four times—that’s never happened to me before.  The worst part was, I had two shades of yarn and started over with the wrong color. Now everything’s finally right—the color and size are perfect—but I’ve almost lost my enthusiasm for it. But—a promise is a promise—I’ll stick with it.

Since this thread started, I’ve finished a few UFOs and have hardly started any new ones.

Oh, Marion, we’ll be even happier in the end when we finally finish it ;)
With my own designs, I always know exactly how I want it, but with someone else’s pattern (and this one is in English too), it’s sometimes not so easy. But we’ll get there, and that’s what matters.

Mel, you’re right. It’s the result that counts.
To let off some steam, I just made a few small pieces in between. It was fun, they turned out really well, and that puts you in a better mood again.

Yes, that’s why I made my little hippos! A little colorful change of pace now and then!
